With apologies to a funny story I once heard
I've owned every version, starting with the 2006 title. After the horrible start of that season, I went down to V6.5, and found 38 bugs in 11 games. I went down again from V6.5 to Version 6, where I found 63 bugs in 5 games, as well as a corrupted Lahman database. I went again down from Version 6 to OOTP 5. Again, it had many bugs, 192 to be excat, so I went down from OOTP 5 to OOTP 4. Didn't help, found 249 bugs in 29 games. I went back down from OOTP 4 to OOTP 3 (Season Ticket). That had so many bugs, it just was too many to count, so I went down from OOTP 3 to a copy of OOTP 2, while in high school in Orlando. didnt work there, so went from OOTP 2 to a preview copy of OOTP 2 (Can also be known as the beta version). I found a record 1,829 bugs in 60 games. Just was not working, then I went down to the original version of OOTP, which was hand-delivered by Chuck Knoblauch. FINALLY, it worked out, when my team won their division title (Was The Majors division of this league). When interviewed about the win, I said the following. "OOTP is the greatest thing ever! forget the world titles by the Yankees, this game actually means something". I've been hooked since.

Haha! I remember waiting for Steve to finish burning the copies and mail them out!! And the posts where people would be" Have you mailed mine yet?"or "Did you get my order?" then " Hey, I got mine today!"(and I'd be jealous!) Then you wouldn't hear from those people for days. It was funny how posters would disappear after they got their games! Man I wish that board hadn't crashed. I felt bad for Steve having to burn all those games. BTW, I've been around since V1 too. I should post more, I come and read everyday. I still have the manual I printed out and put in a blue folder( to match the cd!) I also would print out stats and study them when thinking about changing my lineup or making a trade, but thats a story for another day.

Season Ticket Baseball got me going.
My favorite moment was creating Roberto Clemente in OOTP5. I put him in Pittsburgh but they traded him to Baltimore. Who then traded him to SF where he blossomed and hit, and hit, and hit. I created him from scratch and tried to come as close as possible. Some pop but lots of hits. He retired 19 years later with a perfect 3000 hits. Still boggles the mind. |

I started with OOTP4 as well. I found out about OOTP series after High Heat took a nosedive and I was looking for another baseball sim.

PS. Every version of OOTP I've ever had I've downloaded. (Only way to get review copies quickly.)

I started right after the High Heat Baseball disaster. That used to be the best game around until the one with Curt Schilling on the cover came out. Then Microsoft bought the game, and it was gone forever. Bill Gates came to my house right after that and kicked my dog, knocked up my wife, and ran up my phone bill. You won that round Bill, but it's not over!!!!!!!!!1111111oneoneone

It seems to me that a lot of people got in when the game came out as Season Ticket Baseball and was on shelves. I assume there was something that was not cost effective about that and made OOTP decide to end it, but it sure did bring in a bunch of new people.

That was my point of origin, then the internet looking for add-ons, voila! There's OOTP. What sold me at the shelf was reading I could conduct my own fantasy drafts.

Yeah, but I got it right before OOTP3 came out and they were trying to build hype. So I downloaded it and really liked what I saw and ordered OOTP3 on the spot.
Swore off other baseball sims since. I was a big DM and SOM guy as well as playing Baseball Mogul and some of the others out there. I was actually one of Clay's original beta testers on Mogul back in 97 or 98. THAT was pretty cool. I remember getting my CDs sent to me for the beta test. |

Yeah, i had brought this up around the time of OOTP 6. It might not have been cost effective that year, and the patch cycle was difficult at times, but the number of future customers added by having that game on the shelves has to be high.

Not really sure, but I think I played the original. Seems to me the review that got me into it made it sound like a brand new product.
Certainly by 2 I was playing.
