TRTR : Day 11

Off-season Ease and Immersiveness

One of the most noticeable changes in OOTPB 2007 is the availability of new tools and reports that help organize and speed up the process of evaluating and improving your team.

Question about the offers screen: can we withdraw offers, unlike last version? Also do we confirm a deal after the player agrees (i.e. like in a trade, we need to confirm)? This really bugged me about v.2006

You moved a player multiple spots the wrong way on the defensive spectrum and had success?!

Can you post defensive stats / rankings for Will Hoffman?

I'm having nightmare flashbacks of user board people (and bloggers!) in Kansas City suggesting that all the answers to our shortstop problems with Berroa is to just move Teahan or Gordon to shortstop.

Second this request please. This made me raise my eyebrow too.

I assumed he meant that the guy was rated at SS.

My thoughts as well. Based the author's careful observations and considerations, it would have been difficult for me to believe otherwise.

maybe he was a SS that got moved to 3B by his previous organization?

and even if he wasnt, there are exceptions to every rule. i wouldnt freak out because you see 1 instance, id wait until i saw multiple unexplainable instances

My biggest issue here is why would an AI team trade a 4 star 3Bman who is making the league minimum for a high potential prospect. That makes zero sense to me and makes me think the AI trades aren't as great as people have said so far.

Can someone give me a reason why this wasn't completely lopsided?

Perhaps a weighted influence was the fact that the team, IIRC, was one in Rebuilding mode.

Well, I didn't see Nutlaw's league, but there's any number of reasons a team might make this deal:

a. he was due for arbitration or free agency, and was going to cost a ton of money in the next year

b. team had a logjam at that position, or an upcoming stud at that position

c. team felt they weren't going to be competitive for several years and wanted to get value back

d. team's scouts didn't agree that he was 4-star caliber

e. team felt that an upgrade at another position was more important than keeping a 4-star 3B

f. 4-star 3B was under-performing

Those are just a few possible reasons. And of course, they might have just made a boneheaded decision, which is fine as long as it's not rampant.

Trade AI is ALWAYS going to be subject to second-guessing, and my guess is that even though we feel it has improved, there will still be people who complain about it. It certainly isn't perfect!

If the team WAS in rebuilding mode... I think that is another reason why they would keep a league minimum 4 star 3B. Rebuilding shouldn't mean... trading away any good player for prospects... it should mean trading away aging players for prospects / young players.

No doubt.. But I don't want to be able to just rook AI teams out of 4 star calibre players with 5 star prospects... that will make the game way too easy.
