Maybe it's confused since I'm apparently registered under 2 different email addresses? Any ideas?

BTW, I got the download no problem, it's just the preview forum that I'm locked out of.
PM Marc Duffy for access.

I won as well. This is my third year with OOTP (my first came while I was in Iraq of all things).

I'm a bit of a lurker but, as with CTS, I am active in the BLB (Brewer's League Baseball).

I never win anything. This is a good way to break a trend.

WOW, i definitley didn't think that i would win this lottery.
Sadly i won't start my preview until this weekend since i have 3 mid terms before spring break next week.
I can only imagine how much better this game is compared to the demo of 2006 that i just got done playing.

Congrats to the winners. I figured I'd either win this or tomorrow night's mega millions lottery. Guess I should start spending now!

I am not asking this for any purpose for myself since I won't be able to get the game until the 26th at the soonest, but I would like to know why, if the game is good enough to allow some people to get a preview to the game, why it isn't good enough to release to everyone now?

It isn't good enough to release. There are hundreds of bugs that have not been confirmed dead. They are being confirmed as such. The manual and help files are not done.

Competition is an insensitive ritual that reeks of capitalism and social Darwinism. Your loss is someone else's gain, and your gain is someone else's loss. Therefore, losers contribute to the community while winners detract from it. Being a winner is therefore unenlightened, selfish, unethical and solitary, while losers are enlightened, sharing, guilt-free and striving as a collective. In the modern spirit of diversity, inclusiveness, and collectivism contests should have no longer have any winners. Everyone should instead be declared a loser, and be made to suffer equally.

Then reverse the question, if it still isn't ready for release, what purpose do previews do if people are getting a glitchy program?

If the people who get previews come on here and start mentioning bugs they find, all that will do is open up the hornet's nest of people fretting about the quality of the game they will be receiving in a couple weeks and questioning you all about if this will be fixed and that will be fixed, etc.

I'm not a tester nor a developer, but I'd guess that they're mostly preparing the game for the more mainstream/casual audience. Sure, most of us here wouldn't mind playing it now - even with some minor bugs, but I'm sure they want to iron those all out before it's distributed to the masses. I think there's a lot more to prove this year, after all of the advertising done last year for such a buggy game.

Aw, shucks, Rob. I just thought it was funny, since you'd already seen the game an all. No harm meant (and I hope you get a HUGE wad of cash ).

OK, let's try to clear some things up. It's better, faster, more accurate statistically, easier to use, and more functional than OOTP 2006. It's been that way for a very long time. It's light years better than any released OOTP version ever.

It's still not ready to be launched.

My opinion: if this game was at this quality level in 2003, it would have been released in mid February, and we'd be on patch 5 by now (remember who it was patched back in the day?), and people would have been jumping for joy with how things work right from day one.

Granted, there would be grumpy people with FaceGen issues, a few that could not install the game, the Mac people would be livid, and so on.

This isn't what they are shooting for. Marc and Markus are shooting for a walk-off three run home run. Game Over; OOTP is back. How does this get done? A lot of planning and testing, an obsessive attention to detail. There are 2500+ listed bugs and feature requests, most of them have been addressed. There are still enough landmines out there that are embarrassing. So we bug hunt and wait for March 23rd.

The preview acts as a dress rehearsal. It gets a bunch of people who have not installed the game before to load it and license it. That's gold. It tests the pipes without straining the system On March 23rd, Marc Duffy is going to be the World's Busiest man. How many PM's is he going to get? The 5 day demo shows things are working or are flawed, and gives 19 days to fix things with the plumbing.

The preview acts as a unbiased sounding board. I looked at the names who got the game preview. I saw two names. I thought, "Who the hell are these guys?" There's a simple answer, they are loyal OOTP customers who paid up early. They don't have to post, to test, to build mods, all they have to do is pay for the game. They are going to get listened to pretty intently. Most love the game, many have suggestions, some have issues, and some thing the game is a complete waste and have emphatically stated such.

That's pretty valuable to the developers and publishers.

Excellent. Be sure to PM Marc Duffy for preview forum access. Let everyone know exactly what you think.

OK, well the opinion of those 100 on how the game works for THEIR needs is great, however, judging by the forums, everyone uses the game in a different way. I guess fixing the things those 100 find for their desires is a good thing, but there is no way on earth that everything that each person wants or needs or expects will be addressed by release day, hence there will still be patches. I have discovered things in OOTP2006 that I had never seen addressed in any posts until I bought them up, but that is expected since each person looks at and for different things in a game.

I know I will find things none of the beta testers have found or any of the previewers will find because I doubt anyone has manually taken 1 team, especially a historical one, and played an entire season with it. Obviously previewers don't have the time needed to do it, but so far everything I have seen posted by beta testers have been about "simming" seasons.

Anyway, I had my reason for asking.

Good post.

I didn't know it was a requirement to have "x" number of posts here at the OOTP boards or develop some highly touted mod to qualify for a preview copy.

I love baseball just as much as anyone here. I've had enough experience with other versions of OOTP to know what is good, what isn't, and what I'd like to see.

Nevertheless, I'll be enjoying my preview copy for the next five days.

I'll work on my post count after that.
