Nomar Tracker

Made a quick site and here it is http://chad_cid.tripod.com/

I've always wondered what kind of stats Nomar might have now if he hadn't have had so many injuries. I also wonder where he'd end up, with what stats and what team. So I've decided to find out in my own way. I've decided to sim, starting in 1999 (after his 1st 2 full seasons) and see where he goes.

The computer will control all the teams including Boston and we will see where things go from there.

Notes: I have edited the starting rotation a little, however all the player stats are the same. Also I extended Nomar contract from 1 to 4 years to hopefully give him some more time on the Sox.

Right now this is what the Red Sox line-up looks like.

Starters

2)B. Saberhagen

The 1st month of the 1999 season has passed and Nomar is having an incredible year.

Hitting (avg-hr-rbi) .425-11-25

Of his 45 hits he has 4 2B, 2 3B, 12 BB, and only 4 K.

So far he's had an 8 and a 15 game hitting streak, getting hits in 23 of his 1st 26 games. Doing all this earned him a batter of the month award and 2 player of the game awards.

Other notes:
Boston is just 13-13 in last place in the AL east 6 games behind TB (!!) who hold 1st.

Also, after starting the season 3-1 with a 1.93 era Pedro was injured and sent out for 5-6 weeks (4 weeks remaining).

month two has passed and Nomar continues to have a spectacular 3rd season.

His stats as of 6/2/99 are:
.388-19-47
Along with 5 SB, 13 2B, 3 3B, a .452 OBP, .752 slg %, and 1.204 OPS

Also he has 83 hits, 24 BB, and 9 K in 239 PA.

Other Notes: Pedro has just come off the DL but has yet to make a start since his injury, the Red Sox need all the help they can get, they are 27-26 in 4th place and are still 6 games out of 1st place.

Wakefield has been sent to AAA with a 5.82 ERA and 2-2 record in 6 games and 5 starts in the majors. He's been replaced by Jaun Pena who's doing even worse then he is.

July has come to a close.

Nomars stats:

.385-26-76

OBP: 448 - SLG: 707 - OPS: 1.154

SB: 9 - CS: 4 - 2B: 21 - 3B: 7 - R 85- BB - 37 K - 17

Other notes:

Boston has captured 1st place and holds a slim 1 game lead over the Yankees and just 4 games over Baltimore. The Red Sox record this year so far is 59-43

Nomar is running away as league leader in average, Manny Ramirez is the closest at 19 points behind.

Pedro is 9-2 with a 1.83 ERA, and Tim Wakefield is back in the rotation, he's got a 4-2 record and 4.53 ERA in 7 starts. However he is 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA in the 2 starts he has made since returning to the majors.

Nomar is tied with Manny in 14th in RBI in the AL, tied with A- Rod for 11th in HR, 3rd behind Manny and Jim Thome in OBP, 3rd behind Ramirez and Palmeiro in SLG, and 2nd behind only Manny in OPS.

Martinez is 1st in ERA in the majors.

Some new faces came to Boston before the trade deadline ended. Including Jeff Cirillo (.313-7-33) who came in return for Cormier (4-1 3.41).

Also Nomar was NOT selected to the all-star team.

Thats all for tonight I'll finish this season off tomarrow.

This is really cool! I remember trying one of these with Ted Williams, if he hadn't gone off to war, and I remember it was a lot of fun seeing the stats the players could compile like that.

Have fun and I hope you can continue,

August is over.

1st one note about last month that I forgot to add. Nomar was injured on July 2nd for 3 weeks, thats why alot of his stats didn't change much.

Nomars stats:

.388-31-87

2B: 27 - 3B: 8 - SB: 13 - CS: 4 - R:97 - BB: 39 - K: 21

OBP: .445 - SLG: 715 - OPS: 1.159

Other Notes:

Red Sox are 78-52, in 1st place 6 games up on the Yankees!

Nomar hits 30+ HR for 3 consecutive years.

Pedro continues to have a Cy Young year, he's 15-2 with a 1.60 ERA in just 22 starts.

Wakefield was again sent to the minors and replaced with Pena.

Derek Lowe has 37 saves and a 2.09 ERA.

Nomar leads the Red Sox in Avg, HR, RBI, Runs Scored, OBP, SLG, OPS, and SB.

He also has fewer stike outs than any starter, and in fact even has fewer than 2 part time players.

Cirillo seems like a good pick up for the Sox, he went .310-4-16 for the sox in his 1st full month. His ytd stats are .312-11-49 with 8 SB.

This data looks good, and here is a suggestion from Tiger Fan to make it look better.

At the top of the data, type

(pre)(font size="2")

place the text data in here

(/pre)(/font size)

In the example above, replace ( with < and ) with >

This will order the columns very nicely, and make it a lot easier to read.

Yoshii pitched a spectacular game, going all nine innings and allowing just 1 ER. Pedro went 8.1 and allowed 2. The final score was 4-1 Clevland, the only Boston run came from Nomar Garciaparra who was 1 for 4.

Final Score: CLE 4 - BOS 1
W-Yoshii
L-Martinez

Game 2:

Clevland at Boston

Game 2 saw Bret Saberhagen (18-4 3.16) face off against Bartolo Colon (13-7 3.92).

This game was close all night and would end up going in to extra innings. Saberhagen pitched 7.1 and allowed 3 ER, Colon went just 5.1 allowing 2 runs, but only 1 was earned. After 9 the score was tied at 3 apiece. However in the top of the 10th Dereck Lowe
gave up what would prove to a game winning home run to Manny Ramirez.

Garciaparra was 1/5 with a double.

Final Score: CLE 4 - BOS 3
W-M. Jackson
L-D. Lowe

Game 3:

Boston at Clevland

In game 3 many Red Sox fans had lost hope. Their 2 top pitchers had failed to win a single game, and now they were forced to rely on Ramon Martinez (6-18 5.15) to come through with a victory over future hall of famer Dwight Gooden (13-11 4.30). Meanwhile Clevland fans were preparing to celebrate a sweep.

However Martinez pitched well enough for the Sox to get the lead in the 4th inning. By the 6th inning Martinez and Gooden had both reached their limit. Ramon had given up 4 runs through 6 full innings while Gooden had given up 5 through 6 full as well.

The game now rested in the hands of the relievers, for Boston that meant Alberto Reyes (5-2 4.32), who had come over from the Brewers in exchange for Mike Stanley at the deadline. For Clevland it was Paul Shuey (10-4 4.46), who had gone 3.1 giveing up just 2 hits and 1 ER in game 2.

However on this night the Sox got the best of him, scoring 2 runs (1 earned) in his 2 innings of work. Reyes and Lowe meanwhile combined for 3 shut out innings to get the Sox the win.

Final Score: BOS 7-CLE 4
W- R. Martinez
L- D. Gooden
S-D. Lowe

Nomar was 1/2 with an RBI and 3 BB.

Game 4:

Boston at Clevland

In game 4 Boston elected to pitch Pedro Martinez (0-1 2.16 in series) on 3 days rest, meanwhile Clevland handed the ball to back to Yoshii [*OT-for some reason they picked to have him start again over 23 year old Jaret Wright who was 18-7 with a 4.08 era in the regular season, anyone get that?*], who was also on just 3 days rest.

The Red Sox quickly jumped on Yoshii, scoring 6 runs in just 4.1 innings. Pedro meanwhile pitched 8 strong innings and gave up 3 earned runs. In the end the Sox blasted the Indians 10-4.

Final Score: BOS 10 - CLE 4
W- P. Martinez
L- M. Yoshii

Nomar went 2/5 with a HR and 2 RBI.

Game 5:

The day of the deciding game had arrived, and would feature Bret Saberhagen starting for the Red Sox, and Bartolo Colon taking the hill for the Indians.

This game turned out to be quite a pitchers duel. Bret Saberhagen looked good in his 7.1 scoreless innings with 8 hits and no walks, while Colon went 6 allowing just 2 ER on 5 hits.

Lowe, after an intentional walk to Ramirez then struke out David Justice and Richie Sexson. Meanwhile Steve Reed and Chris Haney pitched 2 shutout innings.

As the 9th inning began the Red Sox held on to a 2-0 lead. The inning began with Travis Fryman lining out to the 1st baseman. The Sox were now just 2 outs away from winning the series. Next up was pinch hitter Enrique Wilson who singled to right. That was followed by an Omar Vizquel single to right, and a Roberto Alomar fly out to right-center.

As Wil Cordero stepped to the plate with 2 on and 2 out, the Sox pulled Lowe in favor of Alberto Keyes, who walked Cordero loading the bases. Next up was Manny Ramirez (.335-39-117), the Sox called on John Wasdin to deal with him. It turned out to be a fatal mistake as Ramirez knocked a 392 foot grand slam over the right field fence.

It would end up being the game winner, allowing the Indians to move on and face the Yankees in the next round.

Garciapara went 0/4.

Final Score: CLE 4 - BOS 2
W- C. Haney
L- A. Reyes
S- M. Jackson

I'll recap the rest of the post season later tonight.

Thanks dsvitak, I would have done it myself but I didn't want to check to see what kind of code the forum used, at the time and I figured I'd fix it later.

Yankees Win the World Series

Well the post season is over.

Yankees beat Texas in 4, Houston swept Arizona, and Cinny beat Atlanta in 4 in the 1st round.

Then the Yankees won the ALCS over the Indian 4 games to 1, and the Astros beat Cincinnati by the same.

In the WS the Yankees lost only one to the Astros in game 4 where Jose Lima got the win.

MVP and Cy Young Winners Announced

In the AL the MVP went to none other than Boston's own Nomar Garciaparra, who batted .372, had 202 hits, and a .429 on-base percentage.

In the NL the award went to Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones. Jones batted .325 while hitting 45 bombs in addition to his 43 doubles and 133 runs scored.

Both men were 1st in batting in their respective divisions.

Boston's Pedro Martinez also had some celebrating to do along side Garciaparra. He was awarded the 1999 Cy Young. Batters hit just .198 against Pedro while he went 18-3 in his 27 starts. He struck out 220 while walking only 26, he threw 5 shut outs and had an ERA of 1.93.

In the NL, Arizona's Randy Johnson took home the Cy Young. He had a record of 18-7, and an ERA of 2.69 in his 241.1 innings of work this season. In that time he struck out 295 batters and had a shut out along with 4 complete games. He was 3rd in the National League in ERA and 2nd in Wins.

The AL rookie of the year was Chicago's Chris Singleton who hit .299 (.336 obp) with 25 homers and 101 RBI. He also had an impressive 43 SB.

The Rookie of the year in the NL was Arizona's Erubiel Durazo, who batted .285 and slugged .585, he also had an OBP of .400. His 45 home runs and 115 RBI helped propell the Diamondbacks to the playoffs.

Other Notes

It seems that Boston isn't likely to re-sign Cirillo (.307-14-61) , and O'leary (.277-27-98), despite both having pretty successful years for the Sox.

Cirillo went to TB for just under 4 mil a year, while O'leary went to the Yanks for about 3.1, both of them signed on for 4 years.

The Sox didn't pick up anything major in the FA period, in fact just a couple of minor league guys that might have a shot at the bench someday.

In the off-season Boston picked up LF Doug Glanville (.291-10-62 and 32 SB) in exchange for Ramon Martinez (6-18 5.15)

Looks like a good pick up for the Sox, his speed and defense helps make up for the loss of power they got from O'leary last season.

The Sox line-up after the draft now looks like this;

1)D. Glanville-LF
2)R. Jefferson-DH
3)N. Garciaparra-SS
4)B. Daubach-1B
5)B. Huskey-CF
6)T. Nixon-RF
7)J. Veritek-C
8)J. Offerman-2B
9)J. Valentin-3B

SP
1)P. Martinez
2)B. Saberhagen
3)J. Pena
4)T. Wakefield
5)P. Rapp

Mop-up
K. Bullinger

Middle
1)J. Wasdin
2)T. Gordon
3)M. Guthrie

Set-Up
R. Garces

Closer
D. Lowe
Wish the Sox could have landed Phil Nevin (.244-37-102) but he slipped through their fingures and signed for like 135,000 more in SEA (I checked the offers every day for the 1st couple days), the Sox also went after Curt Schilling (18-4 2.87) but he was asking for way too much.

Way Back Wasdin does it again. I love the Sox, even in a fantasy world something goes terribly wrong so close to the end.

Great thread, keep it going!

March-April 2000

It was a so-so opening month for Garciaparra, who batted .317 with 8 homers and 15 RBI. He has collected 5 doubles and 1 triple as well.

So far he and Jefferson (.323-4-11) have been the only ones performing well, with Trot Nixon (.279-4-8) the only other performing to task. Aside from these three the highest batting avg on the team is Offermans .235.

Pitching has also been a disappointment in some areas so far this season. While Derek Lowe's 9 saves and 0.00 ERA in 13.0 innings of work, as well as the performances of Garces (2-0 0.00 in 10.2 innings) and Juan Pena (2-1 2.39) stand out as successes there are many players having sub par seasons.

Pedro is 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA and Saberhagen is just 1-2 with a 5.10.

Boston is 15-11 and tied with the Yankees for 2nd place, 4 games back of Toronto.

May 2000:

Well another month has passed and Nomar has remained solid, he went .318 with 6 homers and 18 RBI in the month. In addition he has 10 doubles and a triple and was walked 10 times.

So far on the season he is hitting .318 with 14 homers and 33 RBI. He has hit 15 2B and 2 3B while stealing 5 bags and being caught twice. He has been walked 20 times and struck out only 7, his OBP is .380 and his SLG% is .607 giving him a .987 OPS.

Other Notes

The Red Sox offense has slightly improved at some possitions while DH Reggie Jefferson has remained strong (.342-8-24), Nixon has remained consistent (.276-6-18) while Huskey
(.284-4-23 in May) and Glanville (.294-6-12 in the month) have been getting into a grove.

However John Valentin (.181-5-17), and Jason Veritek (.192-3-23) continue to disappoint.

On the pitching side the Red Sox still do not have anyone performing like an ace, and Gaces (3-1 1.09) and Lowe (2.28 15 saves), remain the only bright spots.

The Sox are now in 2nd place with a 28-25 record, 3 games back of Toronto.
