1 yr. Arbitration?

Can someone explain to me how exactly arbitration works in OOTP itself ... For example, if I have a player whose salary information is listed as 1 yr. arbitratin, am I supposed to try and resign him, or do I wait for some form of arbitration to take place, or what exactly happens?

Thanks in advance.

You can go ahead and sign him long term or the game will give him a 1 year contract with the salarie being based on his performance or ratings.

I haven't seen anyone that did not accept arbitration.

Hmm

So what do you think I should try to do?

What are the pros/cons of either method? (signing him to long term v.s. letting the computer take give him a contract)

Personally, I avoid long term deals until I have to hand them out. I hate signing a guy to 5-6 years and have him get injured and lose ratings. Then I'm paying all that money for someone who's worthless.

So I have been letting it go with 1 year deals as much as possible. Now if they start declining arbitration it would make it a tougher choice. As far as I know they don't decline.

So once the arbitration figure is proposed, do you HAVE to accept that contract and sign the guy, or can you choose whether or not to accept that contract, or let him go to the free agent pool?

You have to accept. It just automatically says he'll get so much money next year.

I believe they are going to work with it alot more, but right now it's just a set deal with no negotiations or anything.

Only way to prevent it that I'm aware of is to trade the player or sign him long term. Unless you can release him after the season, but before the offseason. I haven't tried that, just thought of it.

I had a player who was arbitration eligible just leave my team as a free agent! I'm hoping that this feature is improved in future patches.

Shawn,

Had you tried to sign the player and he finally refused to even talk with you about re-signing a contract?

If you haven't I would like to know.

That is interesting. I havent seen that as yet.

What I did was convert a v4 league over to v5 then sim forward through the postseason. The player who previously was on a contract to be automatically renewed was now arbitration eligible. Without entering into any negotiations at all, he became a free agent.

I'm still a bit confused. I thought it was after 3 yrs, but I have guys with 1-2 yrs. of MLB service that the computer says are arbitration eligible (I redrafted using GForce rosters) like C.C. Sabathia and Zach Day. Also, Sabathia in the middle of the season told me he was going to be a free agent and would like an extension...for 7mil or so! If I don't resign him, would he be offered to me at "arbitration amount (less than 7mil) or would he be a free agent. Day says he wasnts around 8mil. Any answers to these questions? They really shouldn't be eligible... I'm nervous about not offering them extensions because they are asking for them like they're impending free agents.

Also, is it me or is trading difficult. I request offers for mediocre players (5s across the boards) and all they ask for is A-Rod or AJ Burnett and then say nothing can be worked out. I offer alot of top prospects and then I find out they were traded for garbage.
