Lmao, I love it when he said they have turned it into "showbusiness" this coming from a man who if he has his way would ruin Scottish football with bringing in a mass of cheap Lithuanian players, this also coming from a man who's own team has pretty much mutinied against him because of the way he runs Hearts.

Ref's are biased to the top clubs because they get more pressure put on them when they ref the top clubs but to say Celtic and Rangers only win because of this is just plain dumb, this is one of the reasons I dislike foreign investors in British football as pretty much 99% know nothing about British football and football in general.

Not a big Enfield fan but always like watching that, not far off the mark with the old team specially the goals as they would have probably been allowed years ago.

That's not to suggest that the game was any the better or the worse for it, but it's a statistic that comes to mind when comparing the performances of England and Spain last week, in the friendly at Old Trafford.

It's true that Rooney was injured, but the home side's performance, even when their two best players were on the park (Lampard and Gerrard) seemed to suffer from that old basic flaw - technique and confidence on the ball. You'd have thought by now that the foreigners in the Premiership might have passed on a hint or two, but it wasn't in evidence. Spain had it rather easy.

Without playing particularly well, they always had enough invention on the ball to win it - and Xabi Alonso wasn't even playing. Do they just learn better from the equally cosmopolitan air in La Liga, or is it just that in Spain, sides like Getafe and Recreativo (another team with a low percentage of foreign imports) are doing well, and dragging up the basic skill levels along with them?

Bit of a development in the Wigan and Jewell against the ref, turns out that Wigan had complained about Dowd in the past and his bias against Wigan and that boss of the refs Keith Hackett had told Wigan he would try and stop Dowd from being the official at their games.

Timo Konietzka scored the first ever goal in the first minute.
Not sure who provided the assist

Borussia Dortmand played Werder Bremen in the first ever Bundesliga game on August 24th 1963

Despite scoring the early goal, Dortmand went on to lose the game 3-2

FC Koln ended up winning the title that season by a comfortable margain

According to reports this morning Steve McClaren has asked some senior England players if he should recall David Beckham to the squad, now I'm not the biggest Beckham fan infact I think he's just an above average player and never been anything else but I watched him last night in the Madrid v Betis game and he's not even above average.

He was slow and I mean very slow, he didn't look like he wanted to be involved in the game unless they were attacking and even his crossing was poor.

I have to say though he didn't deserve the red card but if he hadn't spat his dummy out and tried to break the other players legs then he would never have got sent off, most of his poor play could be down to lack of match fitness but if it isn't I could actually see him struggle in the MLS.

Don't know if you saw it but he's supposed to have brought out a football character in his upcoming new series.

Bit different over here as you don't have youth teams in the States, school sports aren't big over here as all the best talent either play for county teams or professional team's. Some players are even banned from playing for their school teams, example being if say Man Utd had a 14/15 year old on thier books they may have had him sign a contract stating he doesn't play for his school team so less chance of him getting injured.

We have a somewhat similar rule with most, if not all CIF (governing body for all 50 states) and NCAA sanctioned sports, where student athletes are not allowed to play for cash or other valuables, or be signed to a professional club and make money or valuables in direct result of his playing. Otherwise the player becomes ineligible and cannot play unless he goes pro (and depending on the sport, you gotta wait a while after high school).
