That is very very funny.

Historically, with a very different climate of veterans, I've seen relatively new members post and follow that very same path.

I think I might do that now. Just for the hell of it.

Just like the media-darling NFL.

Morbid, but funny.
That's sort of like a "Spinal Tap Drummer Syndrome" injury.

It's the bottom of the fifth and the Brewars take the field. Here's a line drive to shortstop Mick Shrimpton and [POOF] Oh, Shrimpton just exploded. Shortstop Mick Shrimpton just spontaneously combusted on the field. Well, I guess that's the end of his short and uneventful career. We'll be back after this.

Interestingly enough, Spinal Tap is exactly what inspired me to put that in there.

Hey, ctorg, do you still have the injury file around, for you know, er... testing?

I don't know. It was quite a while ago. I think I used it in OOTP5 or thereabouts. I can take a look. Just posting about it is making me think I should make a new one.

Plus, now that there is pbp editing, maybe adding in some humorous plays or news stories would be fun. Not particularly historical, but funny anyway. I wrote some humorous play-by-play for Strat-O-Matic back in the day. I remember one of the plays was a grounder to first, but the first baseman slips momentarily into another dimension and misses it.

The full potential of editing the news and play-by-play hasn't been realized by the community yet, but now that the initial growing pains have passed, hopefully they will be.

Well its not just adding suspensions but the option to appeal the suspension
and either get it reduced or lifted would make the feature more realistic. Yeah you can just change the injury txt but you cant appeal an injury. You may get the wrong advice from a doctor or trainer but suspensions should have the option to appeal it. So then you have to choose between getting the suspension over with or taking a chance to get it lifted. If it doesnt get lifted you may lose your best pitcher in a crucial series down the stretch.

I'm glad to see off-field events/injuries will be a part of the game. For years now, I've noticed the "9 = off field" in the injury.txt file, yet I've never actually seen an off-field event take place anywhere in the game (save for the random "bar fight" email that used to pop up once every year or so in the earlier versions.)

So I have a few questions.

1. Just to confirm... Off-field events WILL actually occur in the game now, correct? That is, it's been tested and they definitely appear in the injury listings?

2. And just to be sure... These items will be editable within the injury.txt file?

3. Will there be any way to control the frequency of off-field events? In other words, is there an extra number we will be able to include that determines how often the off-field injury/event will occur? (Just want to make sure there will be more instances of a death in the family or birth of a child than of lawnmower accidents and attempted murder indictments. )

4. Ok, this is more of a suggestion for future versions. Shouldn't off-field events ultimately be kept in a separate file? Here's why I say this. If a player suffers an actual injury off the field, the nature of the injury wouldn't be addressed by simply stating that he was involved in a car crash. The injury itself would be something like cracked ribs or broken jaw. If the actual injury is specified, it could possibly result in recurring problems, perhaps making him more vulnerable to the same injury ON the field in the future.

So... Markus?

Feedback?
