In and paid for. Now the waiting begins. I have to say that FaceGen had a lot to do with my decision, although the enhancement list was darn impressive. It'll be difficult to fault these guys even if a few things aren't quite right at release time.

What are you getting at? Are you saying that because some people pre-ordered the game and/or are eagerly anticipating the release date that they are not allowed to be disappointed or have constructive criticism after the game's official release? That's just silly logic. If you are referring to people who just whine for the sake of whining well then that's another story.

The proof is in the pudding, as they say. I for one am quite happy with the list of fixes and additions for 2007 and am hoping that the overal game experience is improved over the 2006 version. While I don't anticipate being unhappy in any way, I will be sure to voice my opinion one way or the other. It's people's opinion's and constructive criticism that has had a hand in some of the very improvements and additions that are staring us in the face for 2007, right?

It's the very apparent constructive response to those opinions and criticism that facilitated my decision to pre-order.

If DB efficiency hadn't been improved I would have waited for v2008. That was the only "deal breaker" on my wish list. For perspective, I have bought every version since discovering OOTP3.
To be fair, I think Markus was trying to focus more on the basics this year and things left out of 2006 that were in 6.5. And lets face it, relegation and promotion aren't really part of baseball anyways so I imagine it wasn't the biggest priority for 2007.

Promotion/Relegation is part of the European baseball leagues that are in their early forms. The Europeans are modeling their league structures after the soccer leagues rather than the MLB, which I think is a good thing for potential wider acceptance in their cultures.

I understand why it wouldn't be gotten to yet and I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed. At the same time, I'm hopeful that it will be added in the future and will probably get to pre-ordering later tonight.

Yes, I pre-ordered right away. No brainer. Any one of many promised improvements (expansion, PBP, trading, historical accuracy, AI, many others...) would make it worth the money to me.

I have played every version of this game since v4 and for the FIRST time, I have preordered. I was a little let down by 2006, but not so much that it drove me back to 6.5. Having seen the changelist I'm VERY impressed and my confidence is high.

As a long time patron of OOTP, orderer of every version since version one and former beta tester, I'd absolutely LOVE to preorder, if only I could ever get the email to do so.

I swore I wouldn't preorder after I did last year and was so let down. Then it occurred to me that my let down was after the release of the buggy game. By the time things were sorted out and the final patch was released I've enjoyed the hell out of the game.

So I figure I'll want it eventually, I might as well save a few bucks. I learned my lesson though. I'll keep playing my 2006 league full speed ahead until at least a couple of patches are released or it's been deemed relatively bug free.

I honestly don't believe last year's game would have taken nearly as much heat if it had been in better shape upon release. Then again, they'd had to have delayed the release and that would have brought out the pitchforks and torches too.

Pre-ordered the minute I saw the news of the release. "In Markus We Trust". Seriously, this game series has given me more for my money than just about any other investment I've ever made- and that includes my first wife ;-)

No money, no preorder. I'm hoping to pick up the demo first, then convert it in the latter half of April.

I did not take this as a downer. Rather than negativity I saw this as irony, a commentary on what happened last summer with OOTP 2006.

To some extent this will happen again in 2007 because it's inevitable that some people will not be happy, some of the new features will not quite turn out to be as promised, some unanticipated problems will arise despite the best efforts of the beta team.

There will be some people on the pre-order list who will be flaming here in April or May. Just because they pre-ordered does not deny them the right to do so.

My prediction will be the number of haters and flamers will be directly proportional to the quality of the game upon release. If nobody had posted their opinion of the game until the final patch was released it would have been a very different vibe on these boards last year. Many guys didn't like the 6.5 missing features, the interface, or the general direction from 6.5 but I think the most flames came from having such a mess of a game released.

I've decided personally that I will reserve my judgment on the game as a whole until the final patch is out. That doesn't mean I won't post before then with either my compliments or complaints but I'll keep an open mind until the final product is on my hard drive.

I agree, especially with what you said about keeping an open mind, reserving judgment, even though you appear to have been one of those people who was initially upset with 2006 upon release.

The poll is misleading in that people who have no intention of pre-ordering anyway might not be among the respondents, but as of this post it's 70% Yes, 30% No. I see that as a deserved vote of confidence in OOTPB.

Any new game release, regardless of source, will have those that will bless it as well as those that will vilify it. It's part of the human equation and is unavoidable.

When you stop to think about it, it comes down to math. If you can please more than half the people, you've done an acceptable job. The only problem is you never really know if you've done that since you dont know what the total number of people are.

The next best thing is to look at sales. If OOTP 2007 sales are greater than V2006, then you've done "better", and that is probably what will, in the end, tell SI if they've been successful.

I know there's no use trying to smooth the waves Ahead of time, but I will say it is important we all keep our criticisms "level headed" when the time comes. Those that actually DO that will be listened to. Those that "go off" just for the sake of making a point or just listening to themselves, will usually be vilified themselves, and spend more time arguing with those that feel compelled to defend OOTP than getting to the root of the problem(s) (Not to mention getting their posts deleted firing them up even more).

I was one that was disappointed in 2006, although I never got on and "ranted" other than to point out my disappointments. As a result, I think a number of my concerns were either answered in the patch or will be in V2007.

I'm not really sure why I'm rambling here beyond wanting to remind everyone to "keep cool" when you find those things that aren't the way you wanted them. Remember how much you like the game, and why you want those things to be right. Take a deep breath when the time comes and re-read what you post to see if it sounds like a constructive criticism - or a raging banshee. ;-)

I am pushing for a new option that will uninstall the game and install Checkers if you lose more than 120 games.
