online league help

Ok, I am starting an online league using ootp5, and I need some help.

I am using tripod to host the website, so for the ftp server adress, I assume I put ftp.tripod.com. I know what to put in for the username and password, but whenever I get to the Local Starting Dir, I get stuck. I dont know what to put here, and if someone could help me, I'd be greatful. Thanks!

If I'm reading your post correctly....

What you need is the address or IP that you use to sign in (via your FTP software).

For example....lets say I have web site and I want to run a league. My FTP info (again hypothetically) is:

HOST: holycow98.com (this could also simply be the IP # to your site ala 111.22.111.22)
ID: holycow98
PW: divinebodine

So now...what would I put in-game in the online league setup?

FTP Server Address: holycow.com (or whatever it is you put in for host/address when you login to your FTP sofrware). If all else fails put the IP # to your site.

User name: holycow98 (will just be the same as whatever you put in as your ID in when you login to your FTP program)

PW: divinebodine (again...same as when you login to your FTP software.

Basically...you are putting all your FTP information the same way you would be if you were logging in through a 3rd party FTP program. The game will ******* out your PW.

Your starting directory will be where that FTP information will sign on to.

So in my case it would be www.holycow98.com/ .

In there you will need to create an export folder so that when GMs click their "export via FTP" buttons the game will be able to log in to the site via the FTP information...and have a folder for the game to send the exports to.

I never use the ingame HTML export...but if you do...make sure you specify the name of the folder in-game.

Not sure I did much help here beside waste space...but hope you are able to figure it out.

Does your Tripod account explicitly say it supports FTP? If not, you'll be stuck. If it does, there should be a help document at Tripod explaining what your FTP username and password are.

As for the "Local Starting Directory", you have to create this directory manually using an FTP client program or with your webhost's File Manager. After you've created it and name it, then you'll have something to fill in that blank.

Contact your webhost for your exact FTP login info if it's not plain to see. You are a paying client so they should take care of you right away.

I am having a similar problem for OOTP5. I've never put a league online before. I tried to follow your advice guys, but it is not working.

Here is what I have entered:

FTP server address: (**I'm stuck on this - see below)

username: I entered the correct one

password: I entered the correct one

local starting dir: mywebsite.com/lgreports (I created a lgreports folder inside my wwwroot folder)

For the server address, should I enter the hosting server, which is maxima5.abac.com? Or should it be my website, www.mywebsite.com? (and is the www. necessary?)

For the local starting dir., do I need to just put /lgreports, or is the proper way www.mywebsite.com/lgreports, or mywebsite.com/lgreports or??

Also, do I need to write anything for the "Destination Folder" under "Master HTML Report"?

Thanks.

If your account with your webhost has anything like a Control Panel(which you should see immediately after login), sometimes called "cPanel", there will be an FTP manager. If it doesn't have an FTP manager, chances are that your account does not include, or your host does not support FTP. Without FTP support, you won't be able to upload your league reports.

Anyway stevebydac, if you get tired of the problems with your webhost, www.allsimbaseball.com provides hosting, customized sites, tools and live tutorials to get you where you need to go. It's the fastest, painless way to get your online league going.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thank you for responding.

My host does have FTP. As a matter of fact, I was speaking on live chat with someone last night. He was trying to help me, but the OOTP instructions were a bit different than the norm, so he was not able to give me a solution.

I do appreciate your offer of a site location, but my host (who I have used for business and been very happy with) has given me a free domain and free hosting for 6 months. They've been good to me. So I'd like to support them, but I just need to figure this one issue out. I WILL keep you in mind though. It looks like you have great stuff. Perhaps I'll use you for a 2nd "serious" league I'm planning (this 1st one is for a few casual friends).

With all of the leagues out there, I'm surprised that this issue isn't clearly outlined and solved in a sticky on this forum or in the instructions for the game. Most refer to the old system where the league had its own server. That doesn't apply anymore. It's very frustrating. How the heck does everyone do this?

If you use an FTP program, the way to do it is exactly the same. Whatever you input as the server or site would be the same in OOTP as it is with an FTP program. You should have a list of FTP accounts in your cPanel's FTP Manager. There, you should see listed, the usernames and passwords as well. If the info still eludes you, contact your webserver and ask them what your exact login info is for FTP.

Hope you get it working!

I answered the PM you sent me. I loaded up an old OOTP 5 league (yes I still have OOTP 5 installed lol) I had and for the most part listed what I used for settings and gave brief descriptions of what the game is actually asking you and what it does.

As Mr. Montoya mentions....as far as User Name and Password....if you don't know these...we won't be able to help you with that. Your hosting company should be able to assist you in getting your FTP login information.

Hope it helps and hope you can get your league going.
