Post Second Coming of Ruth possible?

A question for Steve and/or Markus: (or anyone who's already asked or seen this)
Is it possible for a player/pitcher of Ruth's abilities to be generated as a rookie in OOTP4? That is, is it possible for a given created rookie to have credible (better than Poor) talent ratings in BOTH hitting and pitching categories, and be used as both a hitter and pitcher (hitter during days when he's not the SP?)

Yes the multi-talented players can occur, but do so very rarely.

You can teach the pitcher a position in the minors while still having him in the rotation. With strategic use of when to swith the "primary" position you might be able to get the guy to pitch some days and play the field others.

Keep in mind realistically in the majors if they were going to do something like this the player would still likely get the day off after his start to rest his arm and the other days would likely be a 1B or DH.

If it was in the early 1900's, some players would pitch a CG, end up in the field the next 2 games, and then pitch again on 2-3 days rest. But yes, in today's scheme of things, I can't see a young "versatile" player being a starting pitcher and an OF or SS.

Is there an easy way to search for a player like this?

There hasn't been another player like Ruth since he played. No one consistently so distances themselves from the rest of the league year after year like he did. If you truly look at each year and his numbers compared to the rest of the league, it is jaw dropping amazing.

There have been a couple notable other cases of conversions, and a couple cases of pitchers playing the field sporadically during the season, but never regularly (and, generally, during stretches when the pitcher was playing the field, he didn't pitch).

There are some really interesting cases though: Doc Crandall was in fact a middle infielder here and there when not on the mound. Ray Caldwell started a few games in left field for the 1911 Yankees; when he pitched, he batted ninth, of course; but when he played left field, he was the leadoff hitter!
