N(o) F(un) L(eague) Bans Tailgating at the Super Bowl

And within a 1 mile radius of Dolphins Stadium. And bans the consumption of alcohol in a similiar radius.

Quote:
CBS4) MIAMI Die-hard football fans attending the Super Bowl game at Dolphin Stadium are getting a rude awakening after finding out that no tailgating of any type will be allowed within a one mile radius on game day.

"There is no tailgating allowed in the Dolphin Stadium parking lots," Sue Jaquez, a member of the Super Bowl XLI Host Committee, confirmed on Tuesday. "And there is no tailgating anywhere within a one-mile radius of the stadium." "And there are no RVs allowed."

Tailgating is permitted during regular- and post-season games for Dolphins fans, a team official on Tuesday said it would indeed be allowed at the Super Bowl. According to Jaquez, however, the official has been seriously misinformed.

The Dolphins do not organize and oversee the Super Bowl, Jaquez pointed out. Instead, those duties are left up to NFL officials. And because of security reasons, no pre-game partying on (or very near) the premises will take place. Fans spotted tailgating could face charges, Jaquez said.

"This is part of the NFL, not the Dolphins," Jaquez said. "If the Dolphins are saying there's tailgating -- or think it's going to be allowed -- then they need to contact the NFL."

Detective Nelda Fonticella of the Miami-Dade Police department confirmed the Super Bowl rules.

The rules put in force by the NFL prohibit grilling or consuming alcohol within on Dolphins Stadium grounds.

People "will be warned and asked to pick up their things and leave," Fonticella said. "We're trying to make this a pleasant experience for everyone, and there will be plenty to do in the week leading up to the game."

There is no law prohibiting tailgating outside of the stadium property.

One mile radius? They own all those lands?

what charges could they face? The NFL can't make laws. I'd be curious to know if Miami has a "tailgating" law or not.

I'm sure there are plenty of things that are way more fun to do than tailgating anyway.

If I have Super Bowl tickets I'd be hard pressed to find something more fun to do before the game than tailgating.

Tailgating is just a glorified picnic where you can meet and party with a lot of different people. I'm betting that the NFL wants these people to buy their over-priced food and drink. Is there no end to their greed?

No, what's sad is you casting all this judgement on people you don't even know.

By the way, how is that sad? I don't control the way I feel, do you?

This is what I was thinking. I doubt it's a quality of life concern.

And as far as security reasons, yeah, right. Somebody might fall on his sausage skewer or something.

More likely it's what bababui said or a desire to maximize parking space.

You may not control how you feel, but you certainly control your fingers when typing on a message board. And calling a group of people "sad" because they can't carry out the tradition of tailgaiting before a football game and are upset about that is definitely something you thought out and didn't simply "feel".

dude, LLN is living in French Canada. He doesn't understand the fun and tradition of tailgating before the big football game. you think people tailgate at the Grey Cup? No. Of course someone who doesn't understand the fun and tradition of tailgating would dismiss it. Heck, I haven't missed more than a handful of Iowa games the past 5 years. I typically don't go into the stadium, I tailgate and watch the game on TV from outside the stadium. Its MUCH more fun

Typical of the NFL.

However, as long as people continue to march like lemmings to NFL events as their inflated prices, they'll continue to bully the fans as much as they want to do.

It's probably a combination of both. Instead of banning tailgating, the NFL should've tightened up the security regarding press credentials.
