Being Canadian is not a requirement for induction but I guess playing on a team in a Canadian city will get you in. By the way, I cannot stand Joe Carter!

I dunno Shane. Given Carter's performance in the Maelstrom, crackpott might have been on to something.

Schmidt likes Rose's chances of reinstatement.

I don't think it's going to happen as long as there's the potential for Rose to screw things up again. I think he eventually goes into the Hall in one of two ways:

1) He could make a deal right now - he informally agrees not to manage or take a job in baseball, and he is taken off the ineligible list and can go in the Hall. This is the best possible solution for baseball IMO - Rose won't be in a position to screw up again, and can get in the HOF where he belongs.

2) When he is deceased or too old to manage/work in baseball, they will remove him from the list and allow him in. This is another good option, although obviously it involves a long wait.

I think Rose definitely will be in the Hall eventually, but he is rightfully excluded for as long as he's banned. I just hope he gets his life together at some point and stops with the compulsive gambling.

Rose will get into the HOF after he's dead. That's fine with me.

And that's what I gathered from the Mike Schmidt story on mlb.com. Rose isn't as worried about getting in the HoF while he's alive as he is about getting back into baseball and possibly managing somewhere.

1) He did NOT get in...
2) His bid was weak... he played what, half a year for the Expos? He got his 4000th hit, big deal. I wouldn't vote him in. I would, however, vote him in Cooperstown
