Not done deal yet, and this could trigger monopoly-related issues.

*sigh*, I have DirecTV now, but I was planning on canceling in November when my 2 years is up. I hate not getting reception when the weather gets lousy. Especially during tornado season. I still will and will just deal without getting to watch baseball every night (ESPN does a good job of showing a lot of Yankee games anyway
).Typical money first, fans 2nd decision by MLB. Way to go morons.

I have cable and had MLB Extra Innings a couple of years ago. I got rid of it because they blacked out the Rangers and Astros (and I live 200 miles from either stadium!). It's better to inconvenience millions of fans who aren't really local than to overlook the slim possibility that a Shreveport station could give you money to carry their games.
Now the temptation will be removed. That's probably a good thing.

Doesn't the NFL do something like this already? That doesn't seem to be an issue.

The should make an MLB channel, and sell it to whatever providers want to purchase a contract and then sell it to the providers' subscribers.

I got EI last year for Cardinal games and about 85% of them were blacked out for me. I live 200 miles or so from St Louis.

That should be the only time blackouts take effect on Extra Innings, because local channels will still be televised.

I think Bob Raissman of the NY Daily News summed this up rather well:
Dweeb of the Week Major League Baseball For continuing to negotiate a deal that will pull its "Extra Innings" package off cable and make it exclusive property of DirecTV. While MLB's intent is to extract more dough from a satellite provider, any move off cable will shaft loyal fans who subscribed to "Extra Innings." Also, it is likely "Extra Innings" on cable reached a broader fan base than it will on DirecTV. This is just another example of MLB saying it is working in the best interest of fans before turning around and selling them out.

Such as I can watch the Marlins play the Pirates on MLB.TV or MLB Extra Innings because Columbus, Ohio is in the Pirates blackout area. This despite the fact that the Pirates are not on television here...ever. |

Nope. Shreveport is supposedly in both the Dallas and Houston markets, even though no local channel carries most games. Some games, but not all, are on Fox Sports Southwest, but that makes no difference to the blackout. If you're in the "local market", you're blacked out, regardless of whether you actually have access to the games.

People in Las Vegas can't see the Oakland A's, San Francisco Giants or Arizona Diamondbacks.

Yeah, thats the part that sucks.
I don't ever see Kings basketball (not that I'd want to) because I'm blacked out. I live approximately 2 hours from Sacramento, about 20 miles from Oakland.
