On a more serious note, I was ecstatic with the performance today. Gritty stuff and it was great to see Obafemi crack that goal (especially since he'd given away a few balls entirely too easily through the match's earlier minutes).

Three points. Always welcome.

Do you think you could take that much? Id rather have Beckhams children because it would be much less painful int he making.

Can we get back to talking about Obafemi Martins' kids? It is far more interesting than whining and ego-stroking.

Of course. I didn't want to get into a discussion anyway. I'll leave you all to it.

I'll still care, but then again I am not from the 'pool. As long as theres at least 1 Englishman(preferably Stevie!!!!) I'll be a supporter. If they go to the Arsenal of what, 2 years ago, when there wasnt 1 pom in the starting XI, I'll have to reconsider.

The futsal ball is also a couple pounds heavier as well as smaller than a regular soccer ball.

I think Nicky Butt is probably flaccid tbh. He just gives me that impression. We were played off the park for most of today. Given still hoofs it up front to Le Sib whenever possible. That style of play doesn't work. We should pass it, we have the players to play it on the deck. Personally I would have changed things at half time, brought Edgar on for Pattison (who I thought as rubbish, kept running into the middle of the park and leaving our left flank exposed) put Milner on the left and Solano on the right wing. Milner's crossing is far better with his weaker foot for some reason, plus he'd be able to cut inside and take a shot.

To be fair to Martins his hold up play looked alright some of the time, given he had little support. At least he didn't keep kicking it 10 yards away from himself every time he got it. Plus what a goal, and his through ball for Butt was superb in its disguise, immaculate in its timing and perfection in its delivery! Bit lucky today (although their 1st was offside TWICE, and Chimbonda should have been sent off) but sometimes a bit of magic wins those games for you. Up to 11th now and a couple more wins and we could be joining the race for Europe!

Lalas defends MLS quality - PA Sport

LA Galaxy president Alexi Lalas insists David Beckham's move to the United States should not automatically signal the end of his international career.

Beckham is reported to have turned down offers from Italy, France and the EPL to take up a US$250million (AUS$320.4million), five-year deal in Major League Soccer, a move some believe rules out any hope of an England recall.

In footballing terms, when compared to the intensity of the Primera Liga, Serie A or the Premiership, the move has widely been regarded as a soft option, with Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry describing it as 'more Hollywood than football'.

But Lalas, who famously scored against England in the USA's 2-0 victory in 1993, defended the quality of the MLS and said it was 'a little insulting' to both the competition and to LA Galaxy to suggest Beckham must now give up on his England ambitions.

Lalas told BBC Radio Five Live: "I know over in England there is not a tremendous amount of knowledge and understanding regarding the quality of our league."

"We have players playing with David Beckham that are as good as players he has played with or against."

"It would not surprise me if at some point in his time with the Galaxy he were to say 'I could go back and play at the international level'."

"I think he will be pleasantly surprised with the level that is over here and a credibility will emerge when he gets over here."

Lalas accepted Beckham's celebrity factor played a significant role in the club pursuing his signature

He described how the ripples of the deal have already 'spread from the Galaxy's offices all across the country to New York' as other MLS sides look to benefit.

But Lalas insists football must remain the prime motivation for both Beckham and the club if the deal is to prove a success.

"We are bringing in not only a good soccer player but someone who will greatly increase the visibility and push this game to the next level on and off the field. We couldn't be more excited about it," said Lalas.

"It was a combination of both football and money. He doesn't play football for free and nor should he. It is obviously a wonderful contract from his perspective and our perspective."

"But ultimately the most important part of this equation is the playing on the field because it does us no good to have a player who has a lot of notoriety but can't do it on the field."

"That is not the case here. We believe he is going to adapt to MLS, succeed and make our team better."

"First and foremost this was a decision about soccer. Is he going to help out team? I sat down with our head coach Frank Yallop and it was a resounding 'yes'. Our fans will get a quality player in the prime of his career and one they feel can help us be the premier team not just in Major League Soccer but hopefully at some point in the world."

Reading manager Steve Coppell backed Beckham's decision to cut short his time in European football, insisting that a return to the Premiership would have been an 'anti-climax'.

Coppell said: "I think it was the natural decision to make. If any one of the current crop of players was destined to go to America and try to make an impact there it was David Beckham."

"It had to be a new challenge and realistically it had to be America. But what is success? Is it the team winning or is it exciting an enthusing the next generation of players in America?"

"It is very difficult to equate what will be looked upon as success."

"His life is not just about football. He has a foot in so many worlds now."

The Premier team in the world? Now thats ambitious, lol.

Euros give no one else credit. Australia on 2006 and the USA and Korea in 2002 should have proved that football isnt necessatily superior in Europe.

The same goes for cricket,hahahahaha....just kidding. I admit that I've been unable to see a single shred of MLS play so far, so I have only European and some South American league action to watch(besides our Conference level A-league). I love the EPL, mainly because its what I grew up seeing on Aussie Television, but comparing it to the MLS- I am unable to contribute to that discussion
