I think the Astros are more or less screwed with Pettitte gone. I think Clemens is probably gone as well and Lee isn't enough to rescue that offense from itself.

so after the deal for Jennings, whats the rotation going to be?

Oswalt, Jennings, Williams, Nieve/Rodriguez/whoever else. I dont like this rotation at all.

I think it will be Oswalt,Jennings, Williams, Rodriguez (which i think is a terrible decision but since hes a lefty Garner will have him in there) then Albers/Sampson. I honestly think Clemens will head back to Boston.

What was that you said on "our" thread about the Yankees and 35+ players, Astros33? Pettite is 35+. Clemens, is he eligible for AARP yet?

The Rocket is a god. He doesnt count.

I could see Albers in the rotation but probally not Sampson. He hasn't impressed me much.

Sampson hasent impressed you? His first start in the majors leagues he went 7 innings of shutout ball against the cubbies. This was his first stint in the majors and he went 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA. True that hes only had 34 innings of major league ball under his belt, but either way, he impressed me. He impressed me more than Hirsh did and more than Buchholz and more than Albers. I got the feeling that Albers wasent ready to start last season. Maybe it will be different this season. I think Sampson and Albers battle it out for the 5th spot with the loser going to the pen. I would put Nieve into the rotation somewhere but hes being groomed to take over Lidges spot in the closer role. Or Wheelers spot in the 8th inning with Wheeler taking Lidges spot. Either way, I think the first good deal that comes along for Lidge hes gone.

Any 'Stros fans know why Bags is hanging them up? was he that attached to Houston? seems to me like he could have DH'ed in the AL? I know when he was PH'ing in the playoffs a couple years ago his swing still looked good.

His arthitic (sp?) shoulder wont allow him to extend his arms far enough to swing the bat. And he cant throw a ball more than 2 feet. Bags and the 'Stros have a personal services contract that should start up after he announces his retirement friday.

So it's gotten worse since he last played then? because in the playoffs against the cards he looked solid swinging.

True he did. So sad about the injuries. I've just learned not to get excited about young stros pitchers.

That's a shame, because I bet some AL team could have lived without the ability to ever play him in the field ala Travis Hafner, in 05

Bags used to be the best at taking a throw at first to get the force then gunning a guy out that was trying to go from second to third. He was also great at fielding bunts and firing to third. I miss those days.

I guess Bagwell officially retired today.

What a player. What a career.
