Finances
When running leagues from scratch right away I see huge disparities in teams. Generally if you draft more expensive players your budget is set to that level. And then it stays there. You get the big budget, the big media contract and in 3 years have 50 million to spend on free agents.
Is there a way to even that out (the media contracts checkbox isn't working it seems). Is there a way to say "everyone has the same budget you get a bigger one by drawing more fans and making more money). I didn't even see a way to edit other team's budgets/media contracts sizes. Any advice? |

I find that the biggest problem with the financials is the memorabilia sales. Once that level gets set (usually immediately following the inaugural draft or randon assignment of players), it stays put, cheerfully ignoring increases in market size, rises and declines in fan loyalty and interest.
While you're in Commissioner mode, go to the Ballpark and Options page for any team in your league, though you might just as well start at the top and work your way down. In the lower half of the lefthand column on that page you'll find the editable portions of the financials for that team. If you want to change the size of fan base, size of media contract, duration of media contract, or amount of memorabilia sales, just enter the amount you prefer in the appropriate space, HIT RETURN, then proceed to the next team and repeat. (Obviously this is the short form. Some day I'm going to have to write up a financial tutorial.) Then, be patient. Many changes require a year to work through the system. And be prepared to go back in again the same time next year. By then the computer will probably have adjusted (ever upward) your market size, so you can bump that back to where you want it and fine tune any further adjustments needed to the amounts you changed the previous year. (Trust me, you won't get them where you want them on your first try.) Good luck. Once you understand them, the financials are one of the fun parts of the game. |
