Being the Owner
I'd like to see an opportunity to do something like this in a future OOTP game.
Instead of being the GM that offers contracts and reads that the owner is approving the deal, I'd like to be that owner that has to approve the deal. Obviously, this will turn OOTP into a financial game, so I can understand why this would want to be avoided. It could, however, offer a lot for people that want to experience that. Maybe going through the process of moving a team, selling a team, or even buying a team (possibly even buying a team outside of your league in the universe you created. Of course, this will require that we can actually create new leagues after starting a universe). How about finding ways to make money? Possibly considering building a new stadium and trying to get public funding if you don't have enough private funding. Just a pipe dream. I'd enjoy it, though. edit: eh, this is probably more of a suggestion than a discussion. |

I'd enjoy it, too. Always interested in the financial aspects.

If you like the big $, you deserve to check out some oldies like Trevor Chan's "Capitalism" games. If OOTPB had financials like that, then we'd be cooking with gas. As it is, though, OOTPB is complicated enough for me.

It would be an interesting challenge no doubt. I wouldn't mind seeing this in the game someday, but only after more serious things have been dealt with.

Yeah, that would be cool, obviously down the line somewhere. In the meantime check out the wall street raider games. They've been around for years, a little technically involved but they're a blast. You can actually learn some things about financial markets from them to boot!

I do that Wall Street thingy for a living.... I would rather perfer having a hands off owner that give me card-blanc on deals, but still have to live within a budget... like now

I wouldn't mind playing in owner mode either. Perhaps you could also threaten the manager about losing his job if he wasn't performing up to par, and his strategy would change slightly in order to try to keep his job.
Of course, the best part of being the owner would be not having to worry about being fired yourself

It makes sense that we should get to role-play as the owner. We get to be the commissioner, and we get to be an odd blend of GM and field manager.
At the very least, the owner should get a name and some kind of personality, instead of this nameless entity he is now. The team doctor has that much, for crying out loud. I submitted this suggestion to the personnel thread while they were still collecting suggestions, so maybe in 2007. Probably not, though. |
