I think this argument is overblown. The Sox don't deal Manny without signing Drew and that's enough of a threat to hold back most of those walks.

I don't think so on paper. Drew would have to be a step up from last year's numbers to influence pitchers, especially with back to back lefties up.

If it's not Manny behind Papi, then Papi walks almost as much as Bonds did in '04. Drew isn't going to strike fear into the hearts of pitchers or managers, mostly just because of reputation.

I like Drew and I would like to see him in a Sox uniform (along with Lugo), but he's not Manny Ramirez.

He had an EQA of .306... if they want to pitch to a .306 hitter with two guys on base rather than a .343 hitter with one guy on I think that's a pretty positive trade for the Sox. The split issue is a bit more concerning.

The Red Sox want to 2 Hitting and One Pitching Prospect in return for him and probley will be a West Coast team like the Dodgers or Padres or Giants.
Peter Gammons says he will be traded to a team not mentioned yet out their.

They better get out their science kit and mix the DNA of Andruw Jones, Andy Van Slyke and Willie Mays to get a CF. I'd estimate that a Bonds/Manny combo on the corners could cover around 7.9% of the available OF space.

Well i guess that in all likelihood eliminated the reds not that manny would agree to be traded to cincy. But damn wouldnt it be nice to see him blasting homeruns in the G.A.B.P. But then again him and Griffey in the same O.F. would be scary .

The rumored deal right now is Man Ram going to San Diego for Khalil Greene, Scott Linebrink and two top prospects.

I like Greene...and the Boston's pen DOES need help...but those specs better be pretty sweet imo.

The real question in all of these trade rumors is how much of Ramirez's contract the Sox will pick up.

Something I have never understood, why would the Sox want to trade him?

He is one of the best hitters in baseball.
He is awful defensivly of course, but he plays in left field which diminishes a little bit of that awfulness.

And I just looked up his numbers, he had his best season since 2002 and the fourth best season of his career.
The Sox can not really place any blame on him for not making the playoffs.

He is 34 but is a player that already possess 'old guy skills' and has his entire career.

His batting eye is only going to get better and his BA will not change much.
He might hit for less power but if you can get 25 HR out of him and a .400 OBP then I wouldn't mind keeping him around until he was 50.

He has never had any speed so he is not going to lose anything there, and his defensive skills already suck so nothing to lose their either.

So why not just keep him around and let him retire when he wants to retire?
He is likely to remain productive until he decides to hang it up.

Why would they do that? He's underpaid right now.

I think they're probably content to let him do that if no one makes the right offer, but there are also concerns that the "Manny being Manny" episodes are going to be more frequent and more obnoxious over the next two years. He more or less quit on the team last year and coasted to the end of the season while the Sox struggled to stay afloat.

Not to hear them talk about it.

But hey I could be wrong, but probably not

Don't get me wrong though he is one heckuva hitter and definitely someone I would rather have than JD Drew in my outfield err Lineup.

The biggest problem with trading Manny is that Ortiz will break Bonds' single season records for Walks and Intentional Walks.
You are correct I am not from Boston. I suppose "clutch player" is a hard term to judge from 1 person to another. I will say I have seen Manny play a lot of games and very seldom do I come out of that game thinking that Manny didnt come to play or didnt deliver in the clutch. He is amongst the league leaders in RBI's every year(sure that does not define clutch but it would be hard for him to pad these type of stats if he didnt play all games). I have seen him on more then one occasion come up with clutch home runs against my twins when the game was either tied or Indians/Red Sox trailing.

Who the hell's going to play SS? Of course now that I think about it Khalil's been hurt a bunch anyways.

The Lastest Rumor now has Bonds replacing Manny in Boston. They don't need Greene if they are going to sign Lugo to play SS. Then who going to play SS for the Padres then?

Bonds in Boston would be equal to getting very drunk and peeing all over the Green Monster. I'd much prefer the idea of BB slinking toward Milwaukee. If you're gonna pass Aaron I prefer you do it in the same town Hank had to endure his last years. Seems fitting.

That's not a rumor... Manny actually did that during a game!
