1934 WORLD SERIES
9/27/1934 - GAME 1 SHAMROCKS 5 - PILGRIMS 4 Michael Patrick and Van Mungo battled back and forth the whole game, leaving the decision to the relievers in the 9th. Martin Dihigo finally broke it open with a 9th inning with an RBI single off of Carlisle Littlejohn putting the Shamrocks out to a 1 game lead. 9/28/1934- GAME 2 SHAMROCKS 4 - PILGRIMS 2, 11 innings Carlisle Littlejohn may never be able to show his face in Pilgrim Park again. With Game 2 in extra inning knotted at 2, Littlejohn came in and once again gave up the winning runs, this time on a pinch hit RBI double by Dick Bartell. Sam Bankhead led the Shamrocks charge with 3 hits and 3 RBI. The series now heads back to the Shamrocks corner of Boston needing only 2 games to clinch the crown. 9/30/1934 - GAME 3 PILGRIMS 10 - SHAMROCKS 3[/COLOR] Goose Goslin and Jimmie Foxx each launch a moonshot in the 7th inning off of Shamrocks starter Lon Warneke, leading to a 7 run rally which put the game out of reach and put the Pilgrims back into the series. Joe Cronin added 3 RBI in the win. 10/1/1934 - GAME 4 PILGRIMS 5 - SHAMROCKS 9 Michael Patrick and Van Mungo faced off again, and once again Patrick prevailed, though he did not dominate. Norman "Turkey" Stearnes broke the game open with a 3 run bomb in the 7th, leaving the Shamrocks one win away from a championship. 10/2/1934 - GAME 5 PILGRIMS 7 - SHAMROCKS 0 Allyn Stout corraled the Shamrocks, holding off their victory celebration at least one more game with a 3 hit shutout. Jimmie Foxx and Buck Leonard each had another homer in the win. 10/4/1934- GAME 6 SHAMROCKS 3 - PILGRIMS 11 The Pilgrims pummel the Shamrocks for the second day in a row, grabbing the momentum and tying the series up at 3. Buck Leonard launches his 4th bomb of the series and Froggy Redus connects for a grand slam. 10/5/1934 - GAME 7 SHAMROCKS 3 - PILGRIMS 0 Michael Patrick takes control and wins his 3rd game of the series against Van Mungo, blanking the Pilgrims on 5 hits. 1934 WORLD CHAMPS - BOSTON SHAMROCKS 3rd Championship SERIES Co-MVP's: Michael "Irish" Patrick - 3-0, 2.77 ERA, 26.0 IP, 22 Hits, 7 BB, 23 K Last edited by metsgeek; 12-27-2006 at 08:20 AM. |

NOTEWORTHY EVENTS - 1934 * Italicized events actually happened. If the event is partially italicized, the parts in normal type have been changed for this reality. The changes could be extremely minor or quite significant.

1935 Prospect Watch: ALASTAIR "H.R.H." WINDSOR It's not every day that we get to scout a member of the Royal family of England, but Prince Alastair, or "Al" as he prefers to be called in the States, is not your average royal. The prince has spent the last 8 years in Massachusetts, first at a boarding school in Cambridge, and later moving on to Harvard, graduating with a master's degree in Philosophy, and an obsession for the American game of baseball. During his time in college, he played four years as the starting centerfielder for the Harvard Nine. With the recent rise in violence in his home country and the increase in fascist sympathisers (most notably Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts), his grandfather, King Arthur I of England, has deemed that he would remain safe if he stayed in the United States for the time being...and if his grandson wants to spend a little time "playing a game", then all the better. Luckily for the pros, this kid is pretty damn good. Talents (Contact/Gap/Power/Eye/Avoid K): 90/40/40/65/32 Current Ratings: 54/24/24/39/19 |
