More Manny Rumors

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/s...e=MLBHeadlines

It will be revealing of their future (and their current mindset) if the Sox do trade Manny and get a veteran like Young or a trio of prospects for him.

I like the possibility of Man Ran coming to San Diego.

When the Red Sox resign him I want to see the following headline:

Manny, Happy, Returns

I predict the Giants will land him (perhaps as part of a three-team deal, as SF may lack the parts on their own) in order to replace the seat-filling/media-loving Barry Bonds.

I would like the Cubs to get him, though . . . *wishful thinking*

Im just glad the Angels arent going to get him. The price would be too high in good young players for a player his age, IMO.

I know the articles I've seen say that some official says it's very likely, but there are always rumors swirling around this guy so I won't believe it until I see it.

It could well be that Boston just has to make an attempt--however half-hearted--to trade him so as to please Manny.

Kind of like when you're on unemployment and have to pretend to be looking for work.

Manny will do his best Johnny Damon imitation and will play for the pinstripes IF he goes anywhere. Money is no object to Stein-wad-O-cash.

i dont see them as a likely team to take him...nothing young they are willing to part with, crowded OF, more weak in other areas.

i say, if he goes anywhere, its the Angels or Dodgers.

Even if Manny wanted to, he's not a free agent. Unless the Yankees put up twice as much value as any other team there's no way the Yankees could get him.

I find it interesting according to rumors that the Red Sox are after JD Drew and looking to trade Manny again. Getting rid of a great clutch player and replacing him with a terrible clutch player doesnt make sense to me.

I guess you aren't from Boston, because that is the first time I have ever heard of Manny being called a great clutch player. If you were talking about Big Papi then I would agree, but up here Manny is looked at as the classic stat padder, put up great numbers when games are decided already type of thing. But hey I could be wrong, but probably not

Don't get me wrong though he is one heckuva hitter and definitely someone I would rather have than JD Drew in my outfield err Lineup.

The biggest problem with trading Manny is that Ortiz will break Bonds' single season records for Walks and Intentional Walks.

Manny shouldn't be dealt. The Red Sox won't be able to get equal value for him. He has some problems but he is a GREAT hitter. The Red Sox will hurt themselves a ton if they deal him.

How about Manny to Cubs for Rich Hill,Sean Marshall,O'Malley and others?
The Cubs Outfield would be Soriano in LF,Jones or Murton in CF and Ramirez in RF. Felix Pie can be traded for Starting Pitching.
The Red Sox now would have enoth Pitching Prospects to Trade Hansen,Crisp and so on to Braves for Andrew Jones. They can sign Tom Glavine,Mike Pizza and so on with the money they saved by trading Ramirez.

The only reason I see to trade Manny is that he is slowly getting up there in age. He's 34 and will be 35 in May of next year. Now would be an appropriate time to move him.

Assuming that the Rangers aren't dumb enough to trade Michael Young, I like the idea of Shields and Santana coming to Boston. The gaping hole left in the middle of lineup though would be too much to overcome.

All in all it would make the most sense to keep him. Without him, Papi walks 150 times and hits 30 HR and drive in 100 RBI.

I certainly don't think of Manny as a stat-padder. He's effective in most situations. He just doesn't have the same clutch pedigree as Ortiz and that's not a realistic goal anyway. Nor is it really relevant when a guy is as good as Ramirez.

I think they feel like they can make up the offensive drop from Manny to Drew by signing Julio Lugo making it relatively even in the short-term. Obviously they'd need to get some pretty significant value long-term to make the risk worthwhile - of all the prospects I've heard bandied about the Dodgers' players make me drool the most. The best short-term Sox team would have them keep Manny and still sign Drew and Lugo (or possibly Ray Durham to play 2nd), but with the Matsuzaka deal forthcoming as well that may too rich for them.
