FWIW, sdpm, I am also a fan of your writing. I've enjoyed your dynasties and hope you would bring them back.

distant dola, I'm sorry to keep bringing this up, but just thinking about the Glazer thing is getting me freakin' angry. After everything MLS has done to make an American first division league work, they're going to ruin it all for a quick buck. It really upsets me. I'm sorry to bore you all by continuing on this, but I'm like grrrrrrrrr........

Secondly the aim of the league is (maybe it isn't anymore ) to improve the levels and number of American players. How is a loan team that is only to boost Manchester United's money streams going to help that?Thirdly, where does it end? You wouldn't have it in almost any other country, so why lower yourself to that level? If teams are becoming more profitable, why sell your name to a foreign club? The only other ones that do are South Africa and Singapore. Fourthly, what's to say that Manchester United don't just pull out at a moment's notice? Even if there is some sort of comeback to the league, you've just lost one of your biggest markets. And that's before you've even considered the amount of people you've alienated in the meantime over the name change, and the almost certain increase in ticket prices. But really you can just ignore me, as it's not my place to tell you how you should run your league. I just needed to air my view, but as I said I know it's a boring subject, so I will try not to again.

Well it isn't an interesting league for most people here is it?
And it isn't my place to tell you how to run your league profitably. However if that is the only way that the people in charge of MLS feel the league can run at a profit, either rightly or wrongly, then that will be a very sad day. And it will be the time I stop defending it, and stop even worrying about it. In my opinion, you have to independent entities to be successful. If Glazer wants to buy a club, even though he refused to buy the club that played in his own stadium, and keep the name Los Angeles Galaxy, there is no problem in it at all. However if it's only to be used as a marketing pawn, it should, in my opinion only of course, not be allowed, and it will lead to a dwindling, maybe not in the short term (the novelty factor) but in the long term, attendance. On another point, this probably won't even happen anyway, so it shows you how weird I am to be in such a state about it, doesn't it? |

I would wager that you know more about the MLS than 99.99% of Americans. This gives you the right to include some ego along with your posts.

As an authoritative voice on the MLS you should make more, not fewer, posts. People will read them and you might spark an interest. Even if no one replies, this is a soccer/footie thread so no harm done.

There's an interesting point on it that I want to think about.Quote:
The bit I've highlighted is something that wouldn't be allowed this side of the pond I don't think. They have a show on FOX Soccer Channel, which also shows games from Major League Soccer. If someone did that here to someone in the Premiership, all that would happen is that the channel would be boycotted (see Ferguson boycotting the BBC, Allardyce also as well as nearly SKY after the bung programme). It seems you have a totally different philosophy.

IMO people should be free to voice their opinions.

I think it would be the same here, but we really don't have a depth of team sports here so it's not so noticeable. |

The Michael Vick Enigma: 123 yards rusing with 4 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. Falcons losing 14-3.

Im not sure I would want Vick on my team..unless we were playing the ancient Wing T formation. Vick just made a poor decision with his team on the 3 and got sacked..the Falcons have to settle for a FG.

A great finish to the 1st half in the Saints Falcons game. Brees hits a last second 50 yard Hail Mary. Saints lead 21-3 in Atlanta.
