Plexi-glass Burress
My god this guy has become even more unbearable since going to New York.

He's not wrong though, especially about Vasher this year.
I think Tillman will be able to handle him pretty well when Burress is on his side of the field. |

Da Bears are the most over-rated team in the NFL right now.
Plax should keep his mouth shut though, especially without Toomer on the other side to take some of the pressure off of him.

It always amazes me how some people in sports (and politics) don't know when to shut the hell up. Shove a microphone in someone's face and watch 'em blab, blab, blab without thinking. I then remind myself that in both arenas we are often not dealing with very intelligent folks.
In this particular case, in addition to not wanting to give the Bears bulletin board motivation, you would think that Burress would have a thought about Toomer being out for the season and what that means for the Bears secondary being able to focus on stopping Burress. But no. Rather woof it up for the media. Edit - I see you were thinking the same thing that I was, marioh. Last edited by 1998 Yankees; 11-10-2006 at 11:33 AM. |

I would love for the Bears to focus their attention on stopping Burress. If that means Manning has to go to his better receivers more often, that'll be super.

Would you rather him say he thinks they're going to shut him down?

This is a non-story to me. He said the Bears don't have the best cornerbacks he's faced. Big deal. It's not like he said they suck, the Bears D sucks, and the Bears entire team sucks. He didn't say he was going to catch six touchdowns and break every single-game receiving record. He said something pretty tame that very well could be true. |

No. I'd rather he'd shut the hell up, as I said, and not possibly give an extra edge to a team that the Giants are going to have a hard time beating which would be the case even if they were not depleted with injuries.

I should add that Burress is criticizing the Bears secondary for not doing things they don't do. At the same time it's obvious and non-sensical. It would be like saying you could easily hit Roger Clemens' knuckleball, if he'd only throw one to you. The Bears corners don't play straight up man defense (at least not very often). It doesn't really matter if they're the two single worst striaght up corners in the history of the sport, because they don't do it anyway. I hope the Giants game plan is to attack a part of the Bears D that doesn't exist.

I like how people believe that what an athlete says has any impact on the game whatsoever. Acting like the Bears are going to suddenly work harder to shut him down is an insult because it implies they weren't giving 100% to begin with.

You honestly think that emotion and motivation play no role in how well a player plays? You think all players give 100% all the time, every game? Really?

In most sports, probably not. In football, where they only play once a week and 16 times a year, they damn well better be able to get up for each game.

I'd rather that a decent (but certainly not great) NFL receiver shut his mouth for one week, especially when he might not even be playing on Sunday. It would be hilarious if he ran his mouth and then sat out on Sunday. |

Emotion plays more of a role in football than any other sport, and yes bulletin board material can play a factor when it's given by an opposing player. What some idiot writer says usually doesn't effect anyone but when a loud mouth receiver starts running his mouth for no reason you better believe it gives the players extra motivation. |

I don't think so. Not in the pros. These guys go out there to do their job whether or not a loud mouth on the other team is yappin'. If Rex Grossman goes out and throws 4 touchdowns Sunday night it'll have nothing to do with a wide receiver on the other team being too talky.

I would agree that it doesn't effect the game as much in the pros because a lot more talking goes in but it does play a role. It plays a bigger role in college though. |
