Mexican fixtures for the week are about to get underway, shame I cant watch my adopted team Monterrey vs Chiapas as its on a channel I dont have. They need the win as theyre barely in the playoffs.

Chiapas, good name. Although I only knew them in results/tables as Jaguares (after looking on Wiki to confirm this ) - I think after the Monarcas incident where I thought they'd been promoted and they were actually just Morelia under a different name, Mexican teams should tell us what their names are once and for all. Because I'm totally bamboozled.

Im used to either, typically I'll say Jaguares, but since I was using Monterrey I stuck with the city/state name.

Morelia played Atletico Nacional here in Orlando two Wednesday's ago in an international friendly...thought Id share. But I didnt go.

Chiapas is also a state under almost permanent revolt angainst the mexican government. Their resistance is led by a hooded figure named Subcomandante Marcos. Its amazing amongst the poverty and revolution they can actually play football there.

I don't mind. It's like with MLS, and it's done for money, which is what teams need to survive I guess.
And there are plenty of different formats out there. Some very weird ones to work out to start with, and Mexico is one of them.
Two championships in one season, with points average determining relegation, and combining the points from both championships to determine the Copa Libertadores competitors for the next edition.
Now that is confusing and daunting when you first look at it, isn't it?

Is this the Uruguayan club Nacional, or some other one?

Is it because 8 out of 12 teams qualify by any chance?

Yes. it is. As confusing, complex and absurd as the Mexican political and economic systems.

Okay, thanks. You'll have to educate me on South American club football, as I'm not that knowledgeable on it.
Ask me how many teams play in Liechtenstein and I would know that, but as you've seen on a few occasions, not team names from countries in South America.

I dont know much of South American football, I only know of Atletico Nacional cause they played here otherwise the only Colombian team Im really familiar with is America. I know a few Brazilian clubs, the big two in Argentina with a few others, and the big names usually in the Copa Libertadores and what not (Colo Colo in Chile, Nacional in Uruguay), but other than that Im as in the dark as you.

That's right. Especially in the pre-internet era, where all you had was World Soccer Magazine to give you any info at all on these leagues.

The Mexican political and economic systems are another thing that I do not have much knowledge of, so I cannot engage in any debate on it. Sorry.
