Season 2: Rookie Of The Year (Gold Conference)

Candidate #5:

Bantamweight - Jose Becerra (Bear's Unstable)
Season 2 Record: 15-4-1 (11)

Jose Becerra established himself as the leader of the expansion Bear's Unstable. His rookie season can be broken down into 3 separate parts. Becerra started out on fire 7-0-0 (6), hit a rough patch in the middle of the season going 1-4-1 (0), and then finshed strong with a 7-0-0 (6) record. Interesting to note that Becerra went an undefeated 12-0-0 (10) against his own East Division rivals, while only going 3-4-1 (1) against the tough West Divison.

Jose Becerra heads into the EOY Tournament as the #3 seed.

Highlights:
  • Scored 42 Points (Team Leader in Points)
  • Season 2 Top Points Award Winner - Gold Confernce
  • Opponents Average Rating: 5.80
  • Notable wins: W-KO9/W-KO10 Johnny Carter (rated 8)
  • Draws: D-12 Gilberto Roman (rated 9)
  • Losses: L-TKO10 Jose Medel (rated 9), L-TKO6 Lupe Pintor (rated 9), L-TKO10 Elley Bennett (rated 8), L-U12 Eddie Cook (rated 4)

The five candidates for the Gold Conference Rookie-Of-The-Year Award have been posted.

Gold Conference managers please send ballots to SAL listing 3 choices rated 1-3 (1-highest, 3-lowest)

Feel free to vote for any "write-in" candidates.

Absolutely. I feel bad that I didn't buy you a beer at the Convention Center Dave. I owe you one or two.

By the way, A fellow contacted me who is a nephew of one of Jack Roper's opponents (the name escapes me at the moment). Anyway, he has a ton of memorabilia and is an interesting dude himself (has raced at Baja and other off-road courses) and is going to have lunch with me next month sometime. He lives down near you so I'll let you know when we have plans in case you want to join us.

To echo the perivous statements, I would also like to say thanks for putting in all this work to provide us with the stats and awards that do.

As for the vote itself man this one was tough had to really think and look it over before I was able to pick out my winner.

I agree. All the awards and statistics have really added to the whole thread. Great stuff.

Can I outright release a couple of fighters prior to the draft?

That's fine with me. Nothing in the rules say you can't. Send me a PM of who you're releasing and I'll add them to the Draft Pool.

The MexiVilles have gave their outright release to the following fighters and they have been placed in the Draft/Free Agent Pool.

HW-Tommy Morrison
LHW-Eddie Owens
WW-Adolph Pruitt
WW-Honey Mellody
and
FW-Antonio Rivera

Just preparing for the offseason .. none of those guys are trade worthy and I would be replacing them anyway ... I will not be competing in the WW division next year! Had the same idea as Romy .. I'll be throwing a couple of 3 or lowers up there at WW.

Ha, great minds man. I think it's a good idea I see no reason I can't replace the production Pender provide rather easily hell I should be able to surpass it. Also, Hamani has proven to be able to win a fight now and then so it'll work well I believe.

I'll also like to post once again the Paul Pender is available for a second round if anyone is interested. Kermit Cintron is on the block as well maybe one of the expanison teams for next would like to add some power or experience I don't even need that much in return I just want a chance to bash his face in. Man, Mike I now know what you went though with Judah I can't wait for the day I get rid of Cintron what a great day that will be.

Yeah last year I was stubborn with Judah, wanted to trade him or wait until I got someone to replace him, this year I just cut people. I now have 23 points to play with and 6 or lower is going to the WW division. Key is going to be getting production out of my other weights since I'm basically going to be starting down 0-4.

Well, the way I'm looking at the 0-4 problem is that regardless of who I have or what their rated I'm going to lose 4 fight in a match so as along as whoever is my first draft pick equals or surpasses Pender's productive and the guy who is taking Cintron's place surpass his productive, which should be easy, it won't hurt me overall. Next season I'm going to be alittle weaker until my draft picks aged then I think I'll have a far stronger team then this year.

I got a question Mike how do you plan to rebuilt without any draft picks are you going to go the free agent route?

Mike has two picks in the third round. The rest will have to come from the free agent market.
The draft order is set and official on page one of the draft thread.

When the draft is over, I'll keep the freeze on the free agent waiver wire until the expansion teams have their rosters set. Once the expansion teams are ready, the rest of the teams can participate in the F/A market till we are ready to start season 3.

I never looked at the third round just the first two rounds. Hopefully, some decent talent will fall down to the 3rd so he can grab it.

Hey, Mike I'm not planning on using my third round pick so if you want it PM me and we'll work something out.

Mike,
Could you check the drafting order on the draft thread against your spread sheet to make sure I have the trades right and draft order correct.
Thanks

Yeah you had it the same as I did. I'm going to see what's available in the third round, I figure some decent pre-prime guys will still be there.

Plus there are 45 8 rated and above fighters ... and a total of 45 draft picks. I could take two 8's in the 3rd round. If I take a 7 and an 8 that will leave me with 3 3's to pick up for the other 3 spots.
