Why does the Big 10 have 11 teams?
Just curious...marc can you chime in?

Because PSU decided they wanted in in the early 90's and we didn't wanna change our conference name for those pansies. Seriously, I'm not quite sure, most likely because of tradition. |

lol I think they decided to stop counting Indiana as a real team, more of an intramural team if you ask me. |

It's the Big Ten, not the Big 10. Yes, there's a distinction.

As Marc said, the conference originally consisted of 10 teams, and I'm guessing since it had been that way since its inception they didn't want to change the name. They did change the logo when PSU joined, however:

Why 11 teams? Because Notre Dame does not want to lose four games a year.

Indiana joined the conference in 1899 (3 years after its inception). Why, in your opinion, should an institution be booted just because their football team isnt the greatest?
I'd think any conference would love to have IU in their midst, if for only basketball as far as athletics goes. |

Yeah, sorry. I forgot to put a smiley, I thought I did. I wasn't being serious about booting Indiana. Their football team sucks but they are one of the more storied and accomplished basketball teams in college ball so that more than makes up for their lackluster football team.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. There's sports outside of basketball and football in college?

It's a genius logo if I do say so myself.
Now I just have to wait until Central Michigan replaces Northwestern in the Big Ten. |
