This is odd, but still somewhat expected. Today the A's released Scott Sauerbeck and added Mark Kiger to the roster. Matt who? Exactly.

So here's my question: Has anybody ever made his major league debut in a playoff game? Further, has anybody ever played in the playoffs, but never in the regular season? Kiger has a very real chance to be that guy.

Kiger won't see playing time unless Scutaro or Jimenez gets hurt. So I really hope he doesn't make his MLB debut in a playoff game and all he gets is a front row seat to a green and gold championship.

I'm ready to start the Mark Kiger era. Jimenez is terrible.

If we're going for 100% defense from 2B now that Ellis is out, we might as well go with a guy that can, you know, TURN A FREAKING DOUBLE PLAY.

You said yourself that defense is even more important now. Kiger can't be worse in that regard. I don't think he could be worse offensively, either.

Yes, you guys have a point. But I don't see Macha/Beane making that move. I guess they figure Jimenez can actually hit a little bit and they want that.

That un-turned double play could have cost them the game though if they had scored a few runs. So you're right.
