American Basketball

Is there anyone still delusional enough to believe that American basketball is heads and toes above other nations?

http://www.nba.com/news/Clippers_CSKA_061007.html

Why call the NBA Champs the "World Champs" if teams from other leagues are better than mediocre NBA teams?

I'm delusional enough to think that 95% of the best basketball players on the planet are from America so take that however you want it.

And if those guys were that good, they'd be multi-millionaires in the NBA.

A fluke win means nothing. American basketball doesn't translate to the International game. The United States still has the best players. The NBA is still the best league. You don't see top American stars going to Europe to play. You see solid college players who couldn't cut it on an NBA team going. You see the BEST players from the European leagues coming to the NBA.

That and these games are huge to the international teams while the NBA teams probably barely care.

most the NBA'ers that are over there are more concerned with site seeing and all that than really taking it to these teams. Plus, for most the NBA teams they haven't really been working together in the past few months

I think this is mostly accurate. You put these international teams in the NBA for 82 games, and they win 20. Given the one and done nature, the different ball, rules, officiating, coaching, lack of teamwork, lack of competive drive, inability to deal run offensive sets . . .it's hard to win in international basketball if you are Team USA.

Estonia ( or Greece, or Brazil, or Argentina, or Serbia, or . . .) has to get lucky once late in the tournament. America has to be perfect 100% of the time, and they are so inept/ill disciplined they'll never win a tourney again.

You did note the sarcasm of my post right? Raidergoo is right, put the best Euro team together and they may win 25 games in the NBA. Make the world competition worth some money to the NBA players and we win every game by 50. The world has caught up to the US in a lot of sports, I just don't believe Basketball is one.

Really I say the same for Baseball. Take the best Japanese or Cuban team and let them play 162 and they may win 60 games.

I knew you were sarcastic, but you made a point in there (the millionaires/playing for food thing) that I think needed to be address in a serious manner. I wasn't disagreeing with you, just playing off what you wrote.

The best Japanese team in the MLB? Dang. You mean every good player from Japan on one team?

It would be hard for them not to win 100 games.
