FINALLY!!!! Got Pre-Sim stats in Cato Reference

After trying more than 10 times, I finally got the Pre-sim stats to work in the Cato Reference Utility. Time to do a happy dance.

Was it just luck or was there something specific that you did?

I'd really REALLY like to know since I have the same problem...

I did several things so I'm not sure which was the one that finally did the trick. First using 2.0.2 I did the following starting over with my 1st year:

o Edited the two career files removing all of the quotes in it with a mass replace (replaced it with blank to delete it). I'm not sure if this was necessary since the most recent version is supposed to be able to read with the quotes.

o On the Output tab under OPTIONS, I unchecked the box that says "Current Year Team Summary Only"

o On the Win Shares tab under OPTIONS, I checked the box that says "Recalculate all Years"

I think it was one of the last two (or both) that made the difference. After processing the first year, I went back and checked the tab under Output and unchecked the box under Win Shares and everything was fine from then on. But that first year, I did it as described above.

The stats the players compiled in real life prior to the years your league started simming. In my case, the league started in 1904, so it is the stats of the players that they had in real life in 1903 and prior. That way players get their complete career stats even if its a mixture of real life and simmed (Cato's even seperates out the two in the total lines).

Cabbage Patch dance, eh? Don't know that one. Can you send me a video of yourself doing the CP dance so I can learn the steps?

If you don't know the Cabbage Patch, then you need to put the OOTP down and get out sometime.

Wait a minute.

Does this mean that, if I'm missing a season's file, I can get away with doing this, and it'll work for the missed seasons?

I don't know about that. In the directions it said it was only necessary to do it the first year. Since the career exporter does all seasons, if you want one in the middle I would think you'd have to delete the other ones from the file, but I'm not sure that it would work.

Pre-Sim Stats

Would I need this utility if I were to install a 2003 roster set and sim for a few years? Currently I have a 2003 roster set and the 'career' stats show for previous years for each player. Does this only apply to those who import using the Lahman database? Thanks for helping the confused!
