Whats "Automatic" mean on salary report?

I can't seem to find out what "Automatic" means when your trying to figure out your teams salary for the upcoming year from the team salary page. Does this mean that the game engine will give the player a contract & salary when the season is over and the GM has no say in the matter? If thats the case,is it usually a 1 year deal? Thanks

when a player is called up from the minor leagues, and doesnt have a major league salary, he has an "automatic" contract. I believe it is a 5 year contract, after the 4th year, it gives that player a 100k contract for one season. I believe when a player is sent back down to the minors, he is back with a minor league contract

I just looked at the other teams in the league im in---Theres about 1-5 players on each team that say------Salary 100k----through 2003-----left "automatic"...This league started this year so i guess the game engine put them in the 4th year because they have the 100k contracts for the 2003 season which is the year we are starting in. Hmm,do ya think we have to offer them extensions because under the heading "through" it says 2003 ?
Thanks

If it says Automatic, then his contract will for atleast one more year be 100k through the season, you dont have to give them extensions. Each player gets 5 years of this after his first AB. Thats why you see a lot of FAs that are 5 year pros. And none younger than this.
