Official Iowa- Ohio State thread

So who's as excited about this game as I am. I have to work until 4pm so I wont be going to the game, but I cannot wait to get home and watch this huge matchup. How big is this game outside the state of Iowa? Any non-iowa, non-big 10 supporters excited about this game?

Even though my team is #1 right now, this season is almost the least enjoyable one I can remember. Instead of getting excited about each game I just worry and want the clock to hit 0.

It's a big game and really one of the last road blocks OSU has before Michigan.

Our Hawks are going to need some luck, I think, but I'm looking forward to it, too.

From the perspective of this Buckeye fan, there's a bunch of targets in the Big Ten, and then there's That Team Up North.

Iowa is a great school and has proven to be tough to beat, but this game really does not mean too much to me.

Good luck to the Hawkeyes this weekend and in the future, especially on Oct 21st. I hope for your club to finish in the Top 5 with a 12-1 record.

I would list Iowa as the #3 team in terms of conference games that I circle every year. Obviously Michigan is one and then Penn State is two. That's not to say Iowa is the worst of those teams, just that the rivalry is more there with the other 2.

However, the results of the last time the Buckeyes traveled to Iowa are still pretty fresh in my mind. This is the last game that feels losable going in before Michigan. That's not to say they couldn't lose one of the others, but it feels like a real possibility this weekend.

It's gonna be a great game. That place is nuts all the time, I can only imagine what it's going to be like at night.

The Hawkeyes have a lot of injuries. Having to play Harold Dalton at safety is a HUGE step down from the all-B10-caliber player he is replacing. Arguably their best O-lineman in Mike Jones is out too. Kanelis, part of the d-line rotation, is out too. Big, athletic offensive tackle Dace Richardson and a few others are very questionable and will be less than 100% if they do play.

I'm really nervous about Dalton. He didn't look good against Illinois. OSU could kill him.

How I feel about the game at kickoff will have a lot to do with who is even suiting up for the Hawkeyes. OSU will be tough enough to hang with using a healthy team. Going in all beat up could spell disaster.

Starting center Rafael Eubanks is probably out too. So 2-3 of the starting 5 up front will probably be sitting.

If it doesn't rain, OSU wins by 14 plus.

Mark it down. Championship

This game will probably depend on which OSU team shows up. They need the team that came out gangbusters against Texas in order to win this, they can't expect to be able to sleepwalk through it and win on sheer talent alone like they have the past couple weeks.

Even considering Iowa's injuries, OSU has to have a spark. No doubt the Hawks will be pumped.

This thread will last longer than Iowa's legitimate chance at winning this game...........it already has.

As an Iowa fan, I mostly agree. For Iowa to win, they will need at least 2-3 big plays and some OSU turnovers or OSU not showing up to play at all. But, that sort of stuff is certainly possible, especially in Kinnick. OSU wins this one 85 times out of 100 against a beat-up Iowa (and probably 75 times out of 100 against a healthy Iowa, for that matter).

Ted Ginn could have a big day. CB Godfrey can run, but nobody in the B10 can stay with Ginn, and even though Godfrey has outstanding straight-on speed (fastest guy on team, I believe, at sub-4.4), he isn't nearly as quick and fluid as the freakish Ginn. Iowa has to pick their poison. I'm guessing Ginn will be bracketed every play, the LB's will spend most of their time covering the 7-12 hook-to-curl zones, and OSU will go to the flats early and often to get Smith comfortable, then try more often to hit the seam route and/or Ginn on the fly later in the first half or early in the second half (or following any Iowa turnovers in the first half).

*Does a little anti-jinxing dance*

I think the important matchup is OSU's D vs. Iowa's offense. That will determine the outcome I think much more than the other two units.

Another consideration is how good Iowa's punt return team is, since we all know Tressel preaches the importance of the punt and field position.

OSU will cover the spread (currently -7 at most places) for the 13th straight time.

I predicted 20-6 in an ugly game last week (and was amazingly close until Morelli's 2nd pick 6 in the last 2 minutes).

I'm going 27-14 this week. OSU will get a TD midway through the 4th as Iowa will play very tough. Then people will say look they only covered the spread again, they aren't a National Championship caliber team. Now USC, that 17 pt win over AZ was special, they are the team to beat.
