Is OOTP 2006 a major upgrade for online leagues???
There's a debate going on in the online league i'm in right now whether to update from OOTP6 to OOTP 2006 or not. Some people seem to think it's still very buggy. I'm sure there's lots of reviews of it on this board, but I'm at work and can't search through every page right now...so if someone could fill me in on the general consensus, i'd appreciate it.

I think one of the bigger complaints about the game is still the AI, which doesn't really apply to online leagues since the teams are owner run. Personally I'm loving online leagues in 2006 and think it's miles ahead of 6.5. |

Umm, no, not all of the "major" bugs have been resolved. I think if the OOTP 2006 league starts from scratch the experience is a bit different than if the league is converting from OOTP 6.5. We're having all sorts of roster/AI issues every sim in our converted league. Now we're experiencing crashes. So I would recommend that most online leagues wait to convert.
To see what we've been experiencing, visit http://www.invitationonlysports.com/...wforum.php?f=1 and http://www.invitationonlysports.com/...wforum.php?f=2 for the nightmarish play by play. Our league has been around a while and has a dedicated owner core who are currently a bit concerned about OOTP 2006.

I know that longtime league Baseball Maelstrom is getting ready to move to OOTP 2K6, and you and your league might want to follow the progress there at their forums for more info.
Their format is a bit different than most leagues, but the leadership is top drawer and owners are great. If you want to review BM's move to the next version, feel free to watch Baseball Maelstrom's move. If your league isn't sure, I would definitely have the commissioners do a lot of legwork and testing with a long term study (say 2-6 seasons of testing at the least) to see how things are going to evolve with the new version vs. OOTP 6.5. I haven't noticed anything on online leagues with bugs etc... I agree that with owners running the show, some of the AI issues won't be a problem, but you should read the thread at Baseball Maelstrom about what to expect.. The more knowledge your owners have for a change like this, it is good. And their feedback is gold in a situation like this you are contemplating. Good Luck!

In a somewhat rare moment of convergence of ideas, I agree with TC on this one. At the WHBL, we've been following the BM threads with great interest, thanks to some crossover membership. I would suggest doing the same if you're considering a move to the new game.

One thing to keep in mind is that personnel (scouts, coaches, etc) are very awkward in an online league.
Only the commish can do the signing. Only the commish can see which personnel is willing to sign with which team. Only the commish can see what the personnel would agree to, and there is no negotiation. Thus, you pretty much have to do the bidding outside the game and then have the commish enter the winning bid, then go into the editor and set it for what the bid actually was... except that even that is problematic since a team may win the bidding but then the guy won't sign with that team.

also, using scouts makes the league file HUGE. Best to not use them at all in online leagues.
