Post Lets talk about injuries

Hey all!

I have been a little focused on injuries lately and have a few questions if anyone know the answers.

1) Does the AI remember the players past injuries - for example if a player breaks his arm is he more likely to break it again? or are the few times that I have seen this just random?

2) Does the injury ratings change with age or postition played? I would think that there are certain postitions that are harder on your body than others.

3) Does the AI use a progression table for injuries? Like a pitcher straining his elbow then tearing a tendon later in his career because of 3 strained ligamnets.

4) I do believe that injuries effect player development - am I right?

And now a suggestion - I would like to see an injury log associated with the player record. That way you can detirmine if this players development has been stunted by injuries.

Thanks for your help!

I second the injury log idea! That would be a great tool if in fact player injuries have long term effects.

In fact, it could replace the 'prone'-'durable' ratings and force us to use a players actual history to decide if we want to gamble on him.

Of course, I'm also in favor of minor league injuries and those would need to be logged as well.

I'd like to see an injury level for oldtimer leagues. Even at the 'very low' setting oldtimer injuries seem to occur too frequently. Players in the early portion of the 20th century just didn't leave the lineup unless they absolutely had to.

Sounds like this could be factored into the era settings.

I feel ya, Jestre. I too love hearing about the toughness that the oldtimers lived by when it came to injuries. The way that I control injuries and add toughness to the Metro Leagues players is to only turn on injuries in April and July (normal setting; all other times it's turned off). That way there are less injuries, players are back by mid season or end of season when the pennant race can heat up. They are also there for the championship series, save a season ending injury which also becomes more rare when using this method. I know this is not what your asking for, but just wanted to share an idea. Sporr's idea of adding it to the era manager is good idea, too. Or giving us a setting where more nagging injuries occur than can't play injuries.

I was wondering this myself just recently! In my online league, my star shortstop had a minor injury - a blister on his throwing hand. I of course left him in the starting lineup and 10 days later he was again injured - blister on throwing hand. I figured the odds of that occuring twice back-to-back are unlikely unless there is something coded in the AI for this and it not being completely random. Then again, I can't draw a conclusion from just this one event.

Anyone familiar with the Championship Mangaer series has seen what should be the model for injury history...

- no overt injury rating
- individual player injury log
- optional surgeries to repair recurring injuries

I would be overjoyed to see this implemented in OOTP4.

I think getting an alert/notice when a player is coming off the DL would be great. I control all teams and it would save the contant searching/checking.

Even with managing one team this would be a great help.

How about injuries that don't get better when they are supposed to.

And some injuries that would require a stay in the minors for some period of time...
