Question Cato Utility-processing speed

Having just created 13 years of stats with Cato's utility, I gotta ask.......Does the utility recreate all player pages or just the ones that change, and not retired players ?

It took 55 minutes to create the webpages for 2 seasons that I imported with a P4 2.0 Ghz pc. Is that the average time ? It seemed that it was in the player page creation that it took the longest, but it didn't really take long per player, it just seemed to be doing a whole lot of players (hence, my question above).

When I imported more than 1 season at a time, I had both the "Current Year Team Summary Only" and "Recalculate All Years" (under WinShares) unchecked. Everything else is checked.

Just curious as to if I can speed this up any, or if Im doing it correctly........

You can speed this up by not generating splits pages, but beyond that you just have to have patience. It takes a long time to make all these calculations & generate all these pages, I imagine most people start running the pages when they go to bed as they will be ready in the morning. When you say 55 minutes I feel jealous, it took over 5 hours the last time I ouput 7 years of pages. You are probably doing everything correctly assuming you are following the readme.

Ok thanks. I figured as much, but just wanted to make sure

Now that Im caught up, I guess 1 season at a time wont be so bad. What Id really like to know is when my league gets to, say, 1933, is it going to recreate player pages for every player that has played in the league from 1903-1933, or just the pages of the current players ?

It does create every player page every year. Why? Because even retired players' pages can change. In the leaderboards section, their Career rankings will change. Also, the similar players list will change.

I know it takes a long time (to long, really), but I've done what I can to speed it up. I think the main culprit is Access, it is not the speediest database around.

Whew doggie, thats alot of pages.

I guess I can always get her running before I head off to work (since I definitly work more than I sleep), so it will be all done when I get home.

Thanks for the info !

I had a league that was 1871-1944 when I first ran the pages... I made the mistake of offloading it to my son's (slower) computer to generate the pages. It took Sunday evening through mid-day Thursday. <g>

I currently run the pages after every season (now in 1977). On my computer (p3 600) it takes 17 hours to run the pages, that's without splits and ratings.

Oh my !

Anyone know how much time taking out the ratings would save ?

I still keep up to date with Wallman's utility also, so I could always check there for the ratings if needed

It takes my Cato about 90 minutes to run the html reports. I am in the 13th year of my current league.

I stopped running splits and ratings towards the end of the 1950s, and that dropped my time from around 14 hours back to around 9.

The processing time has grown significantly as expansion has added players to my league.
