Awesome!

But I thought minor league free agents automatically went to the free agent pool unless you signed them to a major league deal?

IIRC, that only applies to players not on the 40-man roster.

Some features that are 'missing' will return in OOTP 2007, some won't (promotion days for example).
Markus, you are right about this, and that is why I didn't expect ghost players and other features in the final patch. Instead I tried to propose some alternatives. But this is what you need to do: actually state that you're going to try and bring back ghost players or solve the problem in OOTP 2007. Until this posting, we had never received any indication of whether you were even considering this.

Anyway, the problem with the rewrite is that history is repeating itself. Your coworkers at SI already know what will happen when you rewrite a game from scratch, because they did it with CM4 and ended up with a catasrophe. The same issues cropped up with missing features from previous versions, bugs, and all the rest. I lived through it as a paying customer.

But maybe that's the point. Maybe SI figures that everybody will just wait around for the next version of the game and will suffer through the 'beta' rewrite in the meantime. Maybe the sales figures support this, but it sure doesn't seem like a nice way to do business.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to testing the new aging algorythms and seeing how the new lineups and roster management AI work out.

That's the idea. Either you respond to the uproar on these forums, or your product will be long gone like all those others. At least Markus and SI seem to have a basic grasp of this.

But I for one will never lower my expectations because someone else botched the job. This is why developers from other companies get away with it. People lower their expectations and begin to accept bugs and bad functionality because it's so commonplace. They've been conditioned to believe that this is acceptable. But I will never lower my expectations solely because other people have failed. If you do that, you might as well lower your expectations and not consider murder to be a crime anymore, since murder happens every day and no one has ever succeeded in eliminating it.

Markus, as a historical simmer, I pretty much agree with the knuckleballer (C.Hough), but I also want to recognize the response you did make and the hard work you have done in getting a third patch out. At least now I can start something meaningful, since this is it until next spring.

Probably the 40th time this has been asked, but are we all deleting the \tables folder inside our \data folder for this one?

Edit - Here's a relevant post, but it's from before a prior patch. Same deal with 1.03?

Markus, I know you said before that the download league file option has been fixed to force the GM to log in after they do so, but I didn't see it on your list. Just confirming that it made it.

Great job, and thank you for all the support.

As long as ghost players are optional of course for those of us who never really liked them ...

Once players retire, will they stop aging? In other words, when I look at the retired players will they show up and 60 and 70 year olds on the report?

Was this fixed?

i still cant see baserunning, fielding, bunting, and endurance ratings when playing talent-only.

Who said we wanted to incorporate ghost players? I like having to make decisions about all the players in my organization.

Historical Simmers who want to use minor leagues, and have no fictional players at all.

I was hoping this would make it into the patch as well.

Markus,

Did you manage to fix up the way split-season playoffs are supposed to work? I did post a couple of useful examples of how they ought to work in the relevant thread in the Beta forums...

This is why they are called OPTIONS.

To be fair (and this is seperate from the ghose player discussion), I do think a game can have too many "options" and that OOTP may be getting close to that line.

I think this is part of the reason why a lot of people were turned off at the new interface and design. There are a lot of choices to make before actually getting to the meat of the game and for some it is just too much and making new things an option might just contribut to this getting worse.

In this case I do believe that ghost players should probably be brought back since so many seem to want them and that it should be an option because the true minors are why so many people wanted to get rid of them in the first place. However, I think it is getting to the point where we can't just request every single possible thing and say "make it an option!" and expect everybody to be happy when it takes 45 minutes to set up a league.

Again if ghost players aren't forced back into the game as non-optional things this is fine if Markus can pull it off.

Can all these options just be made optional?
