That page is also attempting to capture marketing info. My Ad Blocker shows that each time I view the page, FastClick and DoubleClick are trying to get info. Luckily I have a great program that is blocking it!

Really? Hmmm...I never thought of the Onion that way. Odd.

Peace

I wasn't sure what I had accessed when I saw the two red entries in my Ad Blocker program, so I accessed the Onion article a 2nd time and both of the red entries were incremented to 2 also. Probably harmless in this case, but ya never know.

Wait, I'm confused. So Iatric, does that mean they are trying to spy on you?

The Onion is Big Brother... interesting...

I'm not professing to be an expert about doubleclick, but it was my understanding that they attempt to track what people's surfing habits. By getting a feel for what you look like, they can then pass the info on to companies so they can know what interests you. It was also my understanding that websites were paid for allowing companies like doubleclick to gather this info, so it may be the way Onion makes a profit.

For $15, I bought a program called AdBlocker that prevents all popups and logs any ads or popups that it blocks so you can see the stats (which is how I found about the two on Onion. In addition, the program I got also had a program called AdAware that searched my PC for any spyware and it found that Gator had been installed on my PC at some point without my knowledge. It then safely removed it. A great product and if anyone is interested, I'll post the name of the company that makes it. It works great on a couple of leagues I'm in that uses Tripod. No more annoying popups.

Yep, that's the one that came bundled with AdBlocker for just $15, though the AdAware version was not the pro version. But it cleaned my system quick and easy.

Knowing this board, I'm surprised nobody has pointed out the duplicate thread yet.
