What mods do I need?

Hey. I've been gone since about May 1st and obviously I've missed a lot.

What mods should I download? Anything good out?

I figured this'd be a nice thread for some beginners too, so that they know what to grab too.

Thanks.

I'm new to OOTP and after playing around with the demo for a few hours I'm getting very excited about this game. I've been spending the last couple days reading this forum trying to figure out exactly what I need to get it setup like MLB. I think it'd be great if there as a list or "getting started" document of mods to install to get the game setup like Real World/MLB with minors and all. I'm still trying to figure out what types of mods there are out there for this thing.

- The auto-face mod noted above looks like a must.

- Cubby's rosters seem to be the best out there.

- Is there a database that should be installed along with Cubby's rosters?

- Logos? Portraits? Schedules? Universe?

Thanks for helping the new kids out...

Truthserum's team logos (which includes all minor league team logos too) are simply awesome! You must download them from the ootpmodsquad site!

The logos by Truthserum have really increased my enjoyment of the game (playing a fictional ML setup).

Is there a Universe that is accurate to the real world?

Is there a quick start or something that has everything I need to start a real world MLB type game?

I'm very sorry if this question has been asked a million times. If so could you just point me to the thread? Thank you very much.

Inside the game there's a built-in Quickstart that mirrors the current major league world, i.e., all major league clubs with their (mostly) accurate minor league affiliates all the way down to short-season rookie A teams. Don't choose the 16 team Quickstart; choose the other one with 32 teams.

This will give you a pretty accurate major league/minor structure. But all your players (and managers, scouts, etc.) will be fictional. I didn't mind that. I'd rather create a fictional universe that mirrors MLB. Otherwise you should download Cubby's 2006 real-life set.

If you're okay with fictional players on real-life teams, you can go to the League Setup screen under Game Setup and change the names of all the teams (majors and minors). There's a separate place to change stadium names. It's a hassle, but worth it. At that point you can load TruthSerum's logos for all major league and minor league teams (they're also helpful to give you the right names of all minor league teams). The Customization Guide tells you how and where to load them. It's not difficult.

Presto, you have a world that mirrors (almost entirely) the current American baseball setup, with accurate logos and team and stadium names but using fictional players.

For me, it's the best way to play OOTP.

What about stadium files for real stadiums? Does anything like this exist for OOTP 2006? I know with previous versions, I could get the real stadiums even for historical leagues. Would be great if this exists for the new game and even better if this exists for historical stadiums.

I haven't seen any. But they would be nice to have. I wish I was a baseball genius, and could put something like this together, but unfortunately I have to rely on others to do this for me.

You don't have to install this to work with Cubby/Rolen rosters but the Arod23/Garlon DB is great for historical play: http://home.comcast.net/~arod2323/OOTP/index.html
