Oh I understand. Our perspective is in large part due to our experiences. Some have experienced far more of the world than others but they still use the same phrases to describe their feelings even if the events they're comparing their issues to are radically different. I can get impatient with these sort of things though but hey, that's me.

One thing about calling someone a nazi though is that it's also meant to provoke. It's not like saying, "oh you're a jerk" or something like that; whether the person bandying the word about seriously means it or is just venting I'll quote Yosemite Sam, "them's fightin' words!"

True enough. I've seen enough of the world and many of the worst parts of it to understand that. I do, however, continue to accept that most anything can be declared fascism, and nazism is the typically utilized synonym for that.

How about this? Anyone can call anyone a fascist or anything fascism (or communism or take your pick) and that's fine. I can also laugh at them if I wish or say "that's crazy". No one is censored, no one is banned, no one's speech is taken away. I know some on here will want to claim that me responding is somehow "censoring" them but if you put an idea out there in the public realm you gotta expect some people will disagree.

Still, I don't want anyone banned for using the "Nazi" word. I may have a laugh at them however.

hey...it was just a post.....no profanity....just a post......so battists gave me a warning.....then you come along and ask for my ouster...the nerve, but since you have apologized, i consider this matter squashed, and furthermore i will no longer require an apology from battists.....because your's was sufficient in repairing any wounds you may have inflicted upon me

Guidokid, actually using the *** in a manner suggesting a banned word can merit someone a warning under the old rules (not the new ones Battists instituted). I think though it was context driven.

Note, I'm not advocating you get warned or banned for this, just letting you know. I've seen that happen.

So rather than just enforcing a rule randomly, why doesn't the moderator simply PM the offending parties and warn them that further devil's advocacy will lead to warnings. Period.

I would argue that 1) it's the same half a dozen to dozen IDs who keep attacking other people's view points rather than simply adding their 2 cents and letting it be and 2) people who aren't serial-offenders should have a longer leash should they have a one-time aggressive post.

The solution is to basically stop pretending that it's everyone at large involved in this and narrow in on the few people who just love to get into unconstructive criticisms and putdowns every time they post. I'm sure the mod's know who they are.

Why, however, should devil's advocacy be illegal on the forum? If it is posted publicly, it has the potential to be everyone's business. You involved yourself in a discussion (as did I) between GuidoKid, 1998Yankees and battists but I would hardly advocate a warning.

Already (in about one day) this has turned into a thought-police scenario. D Love wishes to warn off devil's advocates (privately), I wish to be the devil's advocate.

It will end in tears.

Yea, but it's a fine line and the point could easily have been communicated by use of "n******", "n-word" or anything similar. That word and guido are not really comparable in terms of offensiveness.

LOL, fair enough - I was just trying to make the point. Decalring shenanegans (or calling for the PC police) is a dangerous game - one never knows who might be dragged off next.
