Rotation Bug
1 and 2 man pitching has been added in the new patch.
Unfortunately, if your team only has one pitcher you still get the Illegal # of Pitchers message.

Are you saying that if you set your league to 1-man rotation in the league setup, you get the illegal # of players error? If so, at what point do you get the error message? Thanks, Steve |

I get this error whenever I try to play a game where any team only has one pitcher. I figured, okay, so maybe they need a spare and put an extra pitcher in there, but left it at 1-man rotation. When I went to sim, I still got the "Team X has an illegal number of pitchers (less than 3)!"
Granted this is probably still set like this in case you play with inuries on and your one pitcher goes down with an injury, but most historical simmers play with injuries off or set to extremely low for the first 70+ years of history. And in real life, if the one pitcher did go down, the team could quickly find another. Hopefully this one will be fixed in the next WIP patch. One man rotations were a big part of the early history of baseball, but having to having two extra pitchers around is a bit absurd, especially when there weren't that many pitchers around.

OK, you're going to have to help me out. I'm not much of a historical simmer, so you're in totally alien territory to me.
1. How, specifically, have you set up this league? Was it Lahman? If so, what year? Or, is it just a fictional league? What are the league rules? 2. Are you saying that teams in that era had just 1 pitcher on their rosters overall? If so, how would you suggest the game should behave in this scenario? Thanks, Steve |

The game should just accept this as normal. I mean, we have the option to set pitcher endurance to very high. In historical terms (and this was once confirmed by Christy Mathewson himself), this means that pitchers weren't throwing as hard as they do today, meaning they could pitch more often with no adverse effects (at least no visible effects). We also have the option to set use of relievers and closers to "very rarely". This means even with three pitchers of the roster, the #1 pitcher in a one man roster very, very rarely gets replaced. So the game can handle a single man pitching roster (as opposed to rotation). Since most historical simmers initially start with injuries turned off (or at least set to very low), the chances of that lone hurler getting hurt aren't there. Plus, it is a pain starting in 1871 and having to turn position players into pitchers just to play the game.

Markus has claimed that this issue will be fixed in 1.0.3. However, we have not yet received a test version of 1.0.3 with which to verify.
Thanks very much, Steve |
