draft scheduling messed up

I'm not sure how far back this bug goes (and/or if it's been reported on earlier patches already), but I just noticed in 12262 that the draft gets scheduled for the wrong year in one-subleague setups. Yes, only in one-subleague setups, for who-knows-what reason.

Setting up a fictional league with all the default settings, the amateur draft is scheduled correctly for the first season (June 15st, 2006). However, on the day that the 2007 pre-season starts, the date listed in League Setup is changed to June 15st, 2008, and consequently there's no draft in 2007 unless I manually fix the year (which leaves the calender screwed up, of course, but at least gives me the draft for 2007). If I do fix it, it gets screwed up again the next pre-season, i.e. upon the preseason start for 2008, the draft date becomes June 15th, 2009.

hmm, dola...

This appears to be somehow tied to the league size as well. I can consistently reproduce the bug in a one-subleague 2x4 setup (2 divisions, 4 teams each), but not in a 2x8 or 4x4...

trola,

okay, I've isolated the bug, and it's not a matter of league configuration after all, at least not directly.

The problem shows up only if there is more than one available custom schedule for the given league configuration. When this is the case, the game changes from schedule file #1 to file #2 (to #3, back to #1, etc.) for each pre-season as it should, but it screws up the draft year at the same time.

Easy workaround for now...just don't use more than one schedule file for your league. But perhaps this could be looked at if/when there's a patch 1.03.

I've managed to run into yet another variation of this problem, though very similar to what I previously posted.

When the game auto-loads a schedule, for some reason it converts all letters in the schedule filename to lower-case, i.e. the league setup will show something like atlantic_league_aaa_c_2006.lsdl.

In a league I just simmed, I had been messing with the settings resulting in the schedule file not being loaded properly when the league was created. So I went into Edit Schedule and loaded the file on my own. The league setup showed the filename as Atlantic_League_AAA_c_2006.lsdl (i.e. with properly capitalized letters exactly like I've named the file, unlike what it normally does). When the next pre-season rolled around, this file was "replaced" by atlantic_league_aaa_c_2006.lsdl, i.e. exactly the same file, but the change from caps to lower-case was already enough to mess up the draft date. Quite curious, really.

I suspect when the game scans the \schedules\ folder to auto-load a schedule, it "sees" all filenames in lower-case (but not when you use the import dialog in Edit Schedule) and for some reason it figured that the originally loaded "Atlantic_League" schedule file was different from the "atlantic_league" schedule file it encountered while scanning the folder, so it (re)loaded the file, and screwed up the draft just like it does when it's loading a file that is actually different.

Simming ahead one more season (after I fixed the draft date manually for season 2), it's fine now, obviously because the schedule file in use was now properly named "atlantic_league" and the game didn't try to load something different.

In one-sub-league setups NO June drafts occur after the first season....

This is with generated schedules, by the way...
