Great program, thanks!!!! Faces really add to the game for me. Took me a while to figure out how to use your program. First I was using Firefox (until it dawned on me to read this thread) and then I had to drag all the photos into the (funny enough) 'photos' folder before the program could find them.
Anyway, glad I sticked with it. 23,789 players all with smiling faces! |

I opened the images file for my fictional league (after using Auto-Face to assign random photos). I noticed many photos in duplicate or triplicate (e.g., Player_1656, Player_1657, and Player_1658 -- the same photo). And again, I see MANY real MLB player photos.

OK, let me explain this again.
I used some of the collections that are around the net for faces. I combined several photo packs into one. I then renumbred all of them from 1 to whatever. I then used special software to look for duplicates, even if they had different file names. It does a byte by byte comparison. I removed roughly 5000 duplicate pictures and then renumbered them. I did not manually go through each player's picture to see if he was a major league player. Many were NOT major league players when the picture was taken, but now are and some are stars. They were in the minor leagues and have the minor league hats of their team, which sometimes match their MLB team, thus the Yankees or Cubs hats, etc. Also, maybe one of the original photo packs mistakenly had a Rogers Clemens in it. When you randomly assign photos to a league, it can assign the same photo to different players. This is by design. I did not think it was worth it check for dupes. It would slow the program down somewhat. It would also limit the program to leagues that contain less players than photos that were available. I may add that option in the future. It could check to see how many players you have and then assign them only once, if the # of players is less than the # of photos. But, that opens up a whole new can of worms. Lets say you had 20,000 players in your league and I had 24,000 photos. As new players came into the league, I would only have 4,000 photos to choose from. And each year, this number would get lower. Eventually you would run out of photos. I already have a routine that deletes retired player photos, so they could be re-used, but what if your new team rookie gets your current retired HR hitter leaders retired photo. I started a league that is not too large, 30 teams and 1 set of minors. I randomly assigned the photos and started league play. I am into mid May and the photos on my team are great. I see a picture and I know as soon as I see the guy, that he is my 1st baseman, Joe Mononque. I have played out every game, in the most part, so I have seen quite a few other hitters and pitchers. I have only came across one duplicate. He was a pitcher that I was facing that was using the same photo as my third baseman. So, I wrote down the pitchers ID and after the game, I deleted his image file from the IMAGES folder. I then re-ran my program and it randomly assigned a new photo. So, you play it by ear. You will not generally notice the duplicates, unless you have a photographic memory and can remember every single player out there. Does it really matter that your star Closer has the same photo as some scrub outfielder in rookie ball? You happen to discover it when browsing rookies. Sure, if he was some stud rookie, you may want to delete him from the images folder and let it randomly assign the rookie. You can also delete any photos from the random folder. Just make sure you do not leave any blank spaces. So, if you delete 156.jpg, you need to rename the highest number to the 156 to fill in the spot. It is easier to just delete the players and then use a utility to rename them all from 1-whatever. Just make sure you run the maintenance inside my program so it knows how many photos you have. I wish I could include 150,000 photos or even 1 million, but until someone sends me the photos, it is not going to happen. I wish every photo was just a close up of their face, so that during the game, the online photos do not show just their eye. But I do not have the time to go through every photo and make sure they are correct. You do it, send me the done collection and I will gladly put your names in light. I wish the big collection was broke down into different ethnic groups, so Juan Castro does not get assigned a Pee Wee Herman looking photo. But it will, until someone goes through all of the photos and pulls out the hispanics and puts them into a different folder. Send me the end results, I will gladly implement it.

I think what you have is the MLB file. That should be in different folders based on the year, and even if they were in the random folder, my program would not see them unless they had a # name. Let me know Piazza's number and I will check it with the master. You may want to just erase the photo folder and set it up again. Check my documents and make sure it matches exactly. As you can see by the posts, the program works very well when set up properly.

So far, so good? Now, open the Random folder and scroll through it in "thumbnail" mode. I'll bet you'll immediately recognize MANY, MANY faces from MLB. No, not photos of MLB players before they made the big leagues, but photos of MLB players long after they reached the big leagues. (I attached a small sample to my previous two posts.) I originally wanted to call your attention to this fact, only because I wanted to know if you purposely meant to include these photos in the Random folder. I was taken aback when I found a recent photo of Roger Clemens (in an Astros uniform) assigned to a player in a fictional league. It is kind of hard to "pretend" that my fictional player looks like the spitting image of Roger Clemens (or Sammy Sosa, Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey, Jr., etc.). Like I said, Auto-Face is a fine program. I thought maybe those photos got into the Random folder by mistake. |

Comedian, is the face pack you are using a proprietary one, or do you use one of the photo packs on this site? What I'm asking is if your Auto-Face uses Gambo's new set or something else. Thanks, great work.

I looked through the thread, and sorry if I missed the answer to this, but does the drive.txt file to indicate the location of the logos folder that you added to AULogo also work for this one? I need to put the pictures on drive D:.

Remember guys, this is a quick and painless way to provide faces for your leagues. If you don't want MLB hats or "some" pictures appearing that you recognize -- then either change those pics that don't meet your criteria or simply go back to the old method of doing it all yourself. Larry put together a program that simplified the process for those who simply wanted pics for all their players and let their imaginations AND problem-solving skills take over from there.
I'm sure he'll look to modify and segment the pics over time if enough people contributed to "Asian sets" or "Hispanic sets" etc... but doubt he'll get this kind of response. It's a great program for the wanna-get-it-done folks. But if you're a wanna-get-it-just-the-way-I-want-it, then you'll have to do the adjustments on your own. Thanks for the contribution, Larry. Other than a couple of resizes and having to move a left-handed pic to a right-handed, it's done everything I wanted it to do. Like I said, if I find something I don't like. I just go to the Photo folder, find one I do and get it named to replace the other one.

I don't have room to store all the pictures on my C: drive... so I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the new version!

Comedian, great utility! Thanks. However, I am having a slight problem with a fictional league. It is a 45 year old sim that I have been running and I used the utility to attempt to give all players photos. My league is currently in the year 2051 and started in 2006. After creating the csv, etc. I input a starting year of 2000 and ending year 0f 2060. I then chose use fake faces and clicked on photos. I got photos for only about half of the players in my league. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks...
Ok, first, since it is a fictional league, just pick any year, like 1870 and then type 1871 in the 2nd drop down. (smaller folders there), so this will speed it up quite a bit. 2nd, find out how many players you have and scan back in this thread for instructions on how to override the limit that is built in (to save memory). You have to create a txt file containing how many players there were (add a couple hundred to the number) I can't remember the file name, damn memory, but it is in the thread.

Hmmm....
Don't understand that one... by default it should handle 60,000 player leagues. Is it completing and just not getting photos? Can you possible zip up the league and send it to me? I can give you FTP access to put it there.
