So why did this Trade deadline produce....

a lot of hot air and not a lot of activity?

I know its 15 minutes past the deadline, but it appears to me that this year's Trade deadline was a lot of smoke by the GM's with buffoons like Jayson Stark falling for it and making it sound like its really going to happen. Pretty disappointed in this year's trade activity....

There was nothing out there to be traded for. Everyone wanted pitching and all the pitchers available suck.

The Rangers acquired Matt Stairs though!

Per CBS Sportsline:
Quote:
The biggest prize of the trade deadline, Alfonso Soriano, will remain a member of the Nationals.

Do you blame him after what the Reds gave up for those 2 Relief pitchers?

Asked if he was ever close to a deal, Washington GM Jim Bowden said no.

"At the end of the day, it was a very simple decision keeping Alfonso Soriano," Bowden said.

I blame Cincy for the lack of big deals... That horrible BS trade with the Nats screwed things up beyond belief. All of a sudden MRs became super valuable

I think it's already a lot of deals considering the players available.

Not really. Still lots of relievers traded, and none as unbalanced as that trade.

I'm not sure what you were expecting. This year seemed pretty normal as far as activity/major trades right at the trade deadline.

Considering what Bowden was being offered, I'm laughing hysterically at the moron.

Subtracting Kyle Lohse from the Twins was the biggest deadline addition ever!

But we still have to pay some of his contract.

I'd gladly pay him to not pitch for us again.

I don't really understand the hating on Lohse. He has been a pretty decent back of the rotation guy for 3 or 4 years and while the results havn't been good this season, his periphials actually aren't that bad. Some of his problems this year seem to be simply bad luck. I would bet he rebounds and becomes a productive middle-to-back of the rotation guy again pretty quickly.

I guess you don't watch many Twins games then.
