Sim User Looking for Guidance

I am strictly a SIM user with OOTP. I am currently still using 6.51 because it seems like OOTPBB2006 isn't completely patched or done being developed. I sim a week at a time and then look at the entire league, news/stats/standings/etc.. I basically am the Commissioner and do not run any of the teams. I just like to watch the league develop over the years. I still feel that there will be more changes to the player creation scripts and things that will effect how my players develop in OOTPBB2006 with the upcoming patches. Should I continue to wait to start my new universe and keep using 6.51? Or, am I safe in starting my new league with OOTPBB2006 since I am strictly a SIM user? Any information/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for your time!

Well, my suggestion would be this: download the demo, and test out the game, just to get a feel for it. Create a few different games, do some simming, because the game does have a somewhat steep learning curve. It's very different from 6.5.

Meanwhile, DON'T start your "ultimate final simming league" until you've gotten more familiar with the game. If you're very particular about your league, I would suggest waiting until the final patch for 2006 has been released. (This hasn't been announced yet, but I'm sure at some point they'll say "That's it for this version, we're working on 2007 now.")

In either case, once you import your 6.5 league into OOTP 2006, or if you start over, be sure to back up your league regularly!

Thanks for your reply Steve!

I actually have OOTPBB2006 and like it alot. I'm just not sure if I want to start my new league with it because I'm sure that there will be some new patches that will tinker with the player development scripts and things that will tweak the way a player develops throughout their career. I want to start with everything on a "level playing field".

I'm so sick of these threads...one pops up every two days or so. Either read the OTHER posts asking (is it safe yet? or should I buy it?) or just get the demo.

Manooly-this isn't a personal shot at you, so don't take offense, just an opinion of mine.

Would you rather have these, or the "I want my money refunded!" or "Here's why the game is broken!" threads?

Geez, I thought my post was worded nicely and polite too. I was just looking for thoughts from people who have more experience than myself. Like I previously said, I do like OOTPBB2006, I just wanted some opinions before I "dive" in. Sorry for asking!

Yeah in all seriousness I think Manooly is not off-base here. He had a SPECIFIC request about whether OOTP 2006 was well-suited to his exact playing style (which he described in pretty good detail, although he didn't say whether he was playing fictional or historical).

Maybe someone like Steve wants to put up a FAQ with things like:

"If you are a historical simmer you should probably wait for the Cubby/Rolen rosters"

"If you are a fictional simmer who doesn't play out games, Version 1.0.2 is generally agreed to be pretty solid, and better in many areas than 6.5 such as ..."

If SI writes the FAQ it will say "buy now no matter who you are" but if some 6.5 fanboy writes it it will say "don't ever buy 2006 and come play in my version 6 league".

It's going to have to be "someone like Steve" and not "Steve." I have too much stuff on my plate already.

I think if you want to build a fictional universe, start simming, and then tune in weekly to This Week in Baseball to examine your league(s), you will like this version a great deal.

I think the key issue for you would be increasing sim speed and the memory leak fixes. It's far better than before, but still has plenty of room to improve. Watch what jarmenia has to say on this topic, as it should impact you specifically.
