Castillejo/Sturm (spoilerish)

Just finished watching the fight. I had Sturm ahead by a few rounds and in the 10th he went in to close the show, got careless and Castillejo caught him with an uppercut and Felix was pretty much out.

Javier is one tough customer as was shown in the De La Hoya and Vargas fights. He is a good fighter on the inside and has a great chin. This is by far one of the biggest upsets in boxing this year.

It was revealed after the fight that Castillejo broke Sturm's jaw in the second round with the big left hook. Sturm was taken to the hospital following the end of the fight. It should be noted that Sturm was well ahead on the scorecards when Castillejo stopped him
-From boxingscene.com.-
So Castillejo broke his jaw on the second...and then, on the tenth, finished the demolition job

Found an internet stream that was airing the fight. The quality sucked though

a87: I'll say it was an upset, Javier looked to be in great shape but no way did I think he'd be able to stop Sturm.

My brother was shocked when I told him the outcome last night because Sturm was such a big betting favorite.

In Europe, Sturm was a 1/8 betting favorite. I have seen quite a few Castillejo fights and he is the type of guy to come in to a fight in shape and ready. He is such a game fighter, always coming forward and he just never gives up, even if he is way behind on the scorecards. Javier just does not know the term "lose".

Castillejo has just made big history on spanish boxing, the first boxer ever from Spain to win world championships -alphabet soup- in two different cathegories, Jr Middle and Middle

Lets not forget that it isn't 1975. There are two middleweight champions and most likely more than two jr. middleweight champions. This is why boxing needs to get their act together. How many world titles would have Henry Armstrong won in this era?

He was the EBU champ at Jr. Middle and Middleweight and the WBA middleweight champ. He has been an alphabet champ but not a full fledged world champ.

He was the WBC Jr Middleweight champ -back into 1999, against a Keith Mullings- and then, now, WBA Middleweight. Not as important due to the alphabet things but...well, with alphabet things as well, no spanish boxer got it before

Oh ok. I'm surprised that no one has done that with all the good spanish boxers that have been around.

I'm to say even more regarding Castillejo...not completely sure but I think he's the only spanish that has been able to defend his title...will try to find something more about it

In a sick way, this makes vergas looks good!

But thats what sturm gets! He wanted to sit on the title make 21 defense and then fight someone like taylor! He was offered the taylor fight and he turned it down to fight casttiloj whatever.

If you count the three major alphabet titles in the 3 weight classes, he would have held 9 alphabet titles in 3 divisions (FW, LW & WW). If you count the Jr. weight classes, (JLW, JWW) - 15 alphabet titles. He probably would have grabbed all three versions of the JMW title, too!

These days, we as fans decide who we recognize as champions. To me, Jermain Taylor is the Middleweight Champion of the World until either someone beats him or he retires.

Castillejo is an alphabet champ on paper who beat an alphabet champ in Felix Sturm. That doesn't mean they're bums. But you become a champion only by beating the champion.

That quote makes Castillejo sound like a bum, but he must be pretty good to beat Sturm. What irritates me is how people come along and just because they don't have a big name, they are thought of less or undeserving. Castillejo has been a top fifteen guy for about a decade.
