Remove player from 40-man

I am playing with the 2nd patch and I can't find a way to remove players from the 40-man roster. The manual says that I am supposed to place the player on waivers and on DFA and then I can "outright" him to the minor leagues, thus taking him off the secondary roster. But when he clears waivers, I still can't demote him to the minors. The game tells me that he has a major league contract and needs to be at the 40-man roster. So I have to bring him back or release him. This is wierd. How do I outright a player from the 40-man roster (and active roster) to the minors?

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

I think this is getting changed in the next version of the patch but for now you can waive the guy, DFA him and then put him back on your 40-man and move him to your minors. That's the best I've been able to do.

One thing that will not change in OOTP is that if a player has a major league contract, he is required to be on your 40-man roster. You can move a player with a major league contract to the minors (provided he agrees), but he remains on the 40-man.

This has been well hashed out in previous threads that players who are DFA'd and passed through waivers can be outrighted to the minor leagues IRL, with their gauranteed contracts intact. Sorry I cannot find the thread at the moment. If they have enough experience of course they can refuse the assignment. It also seems that it has been changed for the upcoming patch, at least according to Battists tests.

Quickly looking, this was the last thread discussing this, although there are at least a couple in TS where we were trying to get to the bottom of both how RL handles it and how OOTP is and can handle it.

The DFA'ing technically isn't even necessary, teams just do that because it allows them to remove the player from the 40-man roster immediately rather than having to wait for the waiver to clear.

True, I just don't understand why there is still debate out what the rule is IRL. Teams are under an obligation to pay a player his contract, not to keep him on the 40 man. Yes, in most cases the player can refuse the assignment but he does not have to in order to still get paid.
