The World of Championship Boxing for Windows
A bit of a mouthful but this is a game I should begin testing in the next couple of weeks.
It is a replay/sim (like TBCB) BUT will be a boxing manager game as well. The replay/sim part is based on World of Boxing (which is itself based on the board game Championship Boxing whilst the management game will be based on Return of the Heavyweight Champ (RotHC). For those that don't know RotHC was a paper game that allowed you to manage a heavyweight contender, hopefully guiding him to the title and earning some money along the way. It was designed (as was Championship Boxing) by a guy called Terry Goodchild, who for those who don't know, is a game designer par excellence. Obviously Terry is involved in the computer project as the designer and Gary Stishan is the programmer. Gary's previous works include APBA Saddle Racing for Windows and APBA Golf for Windows so the portents for a cracking game are good. I have seen some screenshots and I like what I have seen. The manager game will be across all weight divisions and not just the heavyweights. Fine details have not been decided but so far the sim has 900 boxers in the database, I will be pushing for this to be increased and am confident that it will be. Gary is at the stage where he can set up a fight card and fight bouts & exhibitions. You can also assign titles to fights and give your universe a name which will then be used in the game. If it is OK with Jim, Tom and Andreas I will keep everyone informed of this game's progresses. Also if anyone has any questions please ask me, either in this thread or via PM and I will either answer them or find out the answer. Cheers Rob |

Interesting. It could be interpreted as spam but it is not a good way to endear yourself to the TB users. First time I have seen this guy around here so who knows what his intentions are.

If the mods have a problem then they can lock this thread with no arguements from me.
Many people have expressed an interest in a boxing manager type game previously on these boards and I have practically given up hope of seeing one produced under the Title Bout banner. I am not knocking anyone here btw, the silence on this subject is deafening though. Incidentally I have been on these boards from day one, just havn't posted for a while that's all. |

Just think the general discussion area is best for this. I know Rob has been around along time but this kind of rubs me the wrong way, nothing personal. It bugs me when people talk about Puresim in the OOTP discussion area also.
Plus the whole "I'm not knocking anyone, but I've given up hope" is kinda of a backhanded stab. Last edited by mh2365; 07-10-2006 at 05:23 PM. |

tbh, there is not the same support there used to be. As a paying customer (and I did buy the second version even though I could of gotten it for free) there is nothing wrong with voicing criticism (and it is failry mild at that). Last edited by Boxingnut; 07-10-2006 at 06:32 PM. |

In my experience as a gamer (both board and computer) people who are interested in a niche kind of product, generally like to try and buy all the products that are in that range. That was one reason for mentioning this. Hand on heart I don't think a manager game/rpg will be released from the Title Bout range. I get no pleasure from saying it nor it is meant as a personal attack against anyone, that's just my opinion. As many people have been on these boards saying they are not interested in the sim but would be interested in a manager style game, that's why I mentioned it. I won't gain anything from it. In all honesty I thought I was doing people a favour by sharing information. |

However you want to try and play it off you are basically pimping another game directly in the forum of this game. It's not right and you pretty much know it.
You keep throwing out the "I love this game but the RPG is never coming out" When you have no freaking clue. That's a backhanded stab at this game and you are making it while you are pimping another game. It belongs up in the general discussion area, if at all on this site. I didn't have a problem when you threw out the same slam about this game while pimping the other one on Grey Dog, but I have a problem with it here. In the end you will do what you want, but if you continue you lose any respect I had for you and I had quite a bit. Do the right thing, repost this in the General Discussion area. As far as the other game, if they are rushing into a management type game then more than likely it'll end up being another WCBM. I hope it doesn't but I will never buy it. Mainly because I could care less about an RPG version, but also because the sim engine will pale in comparision to TBCB. Like every other boxing game ever made. I still fully believe that the RPG will be coming out. You've been around since day 1 and you know how little they talk about stuff. They really didn't talk at all about TBCB2 until they were almost ready to beta test it. The one thing I do know is that when it does come out it will done right. I can say that with about 97% confidence. Which is about 77% more confidence then I have with any other text sim game, let alone a first attempt boxing game. Do what you will I'm done with this thread. |

If this was posted in General Discussion, I never would have known about it. I only visit the TBCB forums. I'm interested in pretty much any boxing based game (board or pc). In fact, it's because of the TBCB boards, that I found out about tabletopgames and purchased Main Event from there today.
I am glad to hear of another boxing simulation being developed, if only to show that this tiny niche of pc gaming still has a market to sell to. |

Wohoo, admins may post in closed threads, that's always a nice privilege
![]() Thanks to the internet and Google, you can find every available computer boxing game in a second. It is wrong to think you can keep people away from testing the products of competitors. Feel free to talk about other boxing games, if not here, you would do it elsewhere. I prefer you do it here. But as soon as it's getting spam or shameless advertising, we will not only close the thread, but probably also issue a warning ![]() Thread opened again (don't know who's closed it )

Okay ... if the programmer has no problem with it then neither do I ... post away boxing nut and if you are able to give us updates while you are testing it.

I love sport sims of all kinds. I would probably check out another boxing sim,but there is no way that TBCB can be beat. It just isnt possible. Well, maybe possible, but its not going to happen anytime soon. Although I would like a few of the new fighters rated, the game is always fun and enjoyable and I have played it since the 70's(board game). I have tried other boxing sims and a couple were pretty fun,but overall,no other game is close to our beloved game...just my opinion.

With hindsight ( a wonderful thing) I wish I would have posted in the general section and had a subtle link saying "Check this out" or something in the TB section. I will be more careful in future.

FWIW, I have a lot of respect for Terry Goodchild's designs -- I would even go as far as saying he is the best pen-and-paper sports game designer I know. He has basically covered the entire world of sports (hell, he even designed a snooker replay game) and his flagship game, International Cricket is absolutely brilliant.
That said, the computer conversions of his games were never quite as good, IMO. Always a bit limited, option-wise and with a somewhat clunky Visual Basic implementation. Nevertheless I'm curious how this will turn out. |

I have an interest in any boxing game going back to Frankie Goodman's Championship fight Game and Rocky Graziano Presents a Century of Great Fights--Two real old board games. (One strategic and one sim). In the pre-PC era I played Title Bout, Data Boxing, as well as Championship Boxing. My favorite has always been Title bout in any of its incarnations. Never got the hang of Data boxing rules. As an old APBA table gamer Campionship Boxing 's dice and chart combo had a homey feel for me. I pretty much wore out the game boards on APBA boxing. I had some customer service issues with Championship Boxing that I won't go into here that turned me off of the product despite its playability. I feel nostalgic about these board games but don't play them at all any more because the scope of Title Bout is so much wider. Never explored any other PC based sims, like the Lamborne games version of championshp boxing. Given the quality of Title Bout and the time I've logged with this game I haven't really wanted to.
