OOTP Convention?

I was just reading through some old posts and came across the 2004 OOTP Convention in Toledo, Ohio. This was announced as an annual event, but I do not remember them having one in 2005, and didnt see any info about it for 2006. I know the SI merger happened around the same time, so did that end this annual event? Hopefully they will bring it back, it sounds like everyone that attended enjoyed it and I would love to go if it was within a couple hundred miles of where I live.

Those of us who couldn't make it to that one brought up the idea of having regional ones. I, for one, would love to have one in New York City, which would be more convenient for many of the game's fans who are here in the northeast. In fact, when I return to live in NYC, I'm considering the idea of trying to organize something.

But I haven't heard anything else about any "official" gatherings since the Toledo one.

There were plans to have one last year, but they fell through.

SI certainly havent had any input into this but if one were to happen, I'd certainly try to make it.

Definitely do one in MN because of the mass population of OOTPers who are from the tri-state region.

I would go, but I'd probably receive a warning there.

Yeah, I'd disagree with someone with almost 3,000 posts and get shot in the backroom probably.

I would think that having regional conventions would be more successful than having a national one. Pick hubs where there are many OOTPers - New York, Minneapolis, LA, etc. - and have conventions there. That would get more people in on it.

Being in Boston, I could most likely do a NYC convention. But one in Beantown would be even better.

The costs for multiple conventions would be very high especially in the larger cities, and scheduling something like that would be a headache in of itself.

When it is done again, (and I really do think it should be too) I don't see them doing regional official cons as the cost would be multiplied..

But I hope we can get another scheduled sometime in the next 12 months.

By getting more people involved, though, you can get more money to pay for things. I'm sure, for instance, you could get quite a few people in the NYC area to put in money to go to something (certainly more than Toledo). The Minneapolis area seems to have a disproportionately large number of players, and I'm sure LA would be good. You could do a feasibility test to see who would be willing to pay and where most of those willing to pay would want to have it, and then see what the costs involved would be.

If I were to put one together for NYC (which I may one day), it would be "unofficial", not an OOTP-sponsored sort of event, and would probably be more of a "get to see other people in person" kind of thing than anything. An official convention has all sorts of fun and games, from what I gather.

If they have regional conventions, Markus and Marc are going to be doing some travelling.

The first OOTP Convention was held in Toledo due to some connections there.

An event at Cooperstown would be a nice extra draw.

I haven't been there since Lou Gehrig became a US postal stamp.....years ago.
