Importing teams from Lahman
Maybe I'm just really bad at reading the manual (which is possible), but I just can't seem to find a way to import teams - not players or entire leagues, but individual teams - from Lahman. I would think that if this were missing, I would find something here about it, but I haven't seen anything, so I assume I'm just not finding it in the manual or something. Anyone know if it's possible, and if so, how to do it?

ctorg, I don't believe this is in the game. You can do leagues, or players individually, but not teams...

workaround?

Importing Lahman into ACCESS and deleting all the teams not wanted (probably quicker to copy and paste which teams you want into a new Lahman Db) ? Just wondering if this would work? |

Wow, I figured I was just missing something. Another thing missing from the new version that the old version had and that I used quite a bit.

I think you can add a single team from another league/universe. So, if you made a league with all teams, you should be able to import that one team.

I've been looking for a way to do this as well.

Could you import duplicate AL/NL teams, delete the ones you dont want, edit the remaining teams/players to reflect the FL names, and then play on?
Does the above method even work? I'm wondering if the dupes somehow screw up the database as opposed to adding fictionals and doing the edit process on them. Any thoughts? |

A simple solution would be to be able to import an entire database when setting up a fictional league. Then one could choose which historical team could go where. PS has this called sandbox. No reason why ootp should lack especially since there are many many people who would like it. |

First of all, I'd have no idea how to do that. Second, this is a feature that really should be in the game. It's kind of basic really. The database is available now and should easily be made available to fictional leagues.

Really? Well then the ability to look at the database and import specific teams from specific years. That's really what we're talking about here. This is a basic feature that should be included.

Can't you have numerous historical leagues at once? What would keep someone from creating a universe that imports every single year of the database or something? That would be a viable workaround I would think. It would definitely be nice to be able to pick and choose specific teams, though.

Any plans on adding this feature in a future patch?

It took all of 4 - 5 minutes to import an historical year. It wouldn't take more than 20 - 30 minutes to import the DB. And if it was time consuming then just design the game so the DB is built in and automatically referenced when required. It wouldn't take long at all. |
