I crashed, and now my player names are gone!
I'm playing in an imported OOTP 6.5 league, and haven't crashed once. I'm about 1 month into the league in OOTP2006, and upon exiting the game, it crashed while saving upon exit.
When I opened the game today, I noticed that the last game got wiped out. On top of that, 75% of the players' and scouts' names are messed up. Some are missing first names, some missing last names., some are missing both. The stats seem to be ok. I'll be REALLY bummed out if this can't be remedied. I was really starting to enjoy this game and get used to it. Anybody experience anything similar?? |

And yes, I'm using the patched version of the game.

Markus, Steve, Mark,
Can someone at least tell me if this is recoverable, fixable with a patch, or is it a lost cause for my league? |

Same thing happened to me--crashed while saving and messing up 30 years of simmed history.
Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a way to recover the files. Did you create a quickstart right after starting the game? |

Luckily it was a league imported from OOTP6.5, so I could always re-start. I don't mind doing it once, but if this is something that can happen again, I really don't want to waste my time re-starting and re-starting. Crashes that cause database corruption seem to be more of a major an issue to deal with than play by play bugs, and scoring errors.

I guess this is one of those issues that aren't too important to look into...

They seem a little quiet today in responding...
I had a crash after which the player names were ok, but the history was wrong compared to the date of the last save. It's as if parts of the game write directly to file, regardless of whether you've saved or not. It seems OOTP2006 certainly isn't as resilient to a crash as previous versions - which is awkward, as it's more prone to crash at the moment.

Keep in mind that all of the posts in this thread were made AFTER 5pm in the UK. Chances are they have not been seen by the powers that be yet. Besides, those three have their hands full, I believe.

It's a shame because I've since gone back to OOTP 6.5 and am deeply regretting being an "early adopter" of OOTP2006. |

Doubtless there are a few frustrating moments that are hard to shake. A crash is certainly one of them. I looked into the reported 'bugs' best I could after reading your post (bumps don't always hurt) and I find a couple of the issues that may or may not be identical to yours.
Sorry to put you through this inquiry, but when you are exiting the game - can you describe the process? In other words, what style of play you're in and how exactly you go about exiting? There aren't any good answers to why the pace isn't as quick as folks would prefer, but there are honest answers: the plate's pretty full. Beyond that, it will sound like excuses. Just rest assured those of trying to help are doing all we can to do so quickly and rightly while still focused on our own testing and recording as well as comparing those findings with yours. So again, it's important to me the game operates without 'failing' on you and it continues to be a major reporting issue once we can either duplicate it, or properly record the event so that others might, and ensure that the report is accurately portrayed and not already being looked at under another TT#. I've derailed the intention too much. Please, if you would, describe the exact situation: where you are, what you do, and what you see when it happens. The more precise the info, the better. And if you can provide steps that will duplicate the occurence, that'll be exceptional. I promise to reply in shorter bursts in the future. Thanks for your patience.

I posted this thread shortly after the game was released
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...=missing+names sent an e-mail to Marc with screenshots and the savegame. Haven't seen anything, not even a tt# for this. By any chance, did you hit the x to close the window when it crashed, or just the 'quit' or save game option? I found that the 'x' was the culprit for me. It bombed out when it was saving the names and then when I loaded it up again, all of the players were missing last names

When this happens, data gets smashed and is gone.
I had one of the patches I was testing do some criminal things to one of my leagues just recently, so I know how you feel. |

If that's the case, then something like this should be the #1 priority of a patch. It goes without saying that data loss/history loss should be a major concern. Forget every other B.S. problem because if you lose 300 hours of playing time, it's gonna be hard to come back and start over.
It doesn't make sense to me that giving your customers the feeling that playing with OOTP2006 is a waste of time is a good P.R. move. |

I'm really sorry no one has responded. It's not that we don't think this issue is important, it's just that we're trying very hard to get caught up, and hadn't seen this one yet. It's true, we're running pretty far behind.
![]() I will log this ASAP. I'm not on a PC that has our bug-tracking software right now. But, I agree with Raidergoo that, in this case, the data probably isn't recoverable. ![]() I would always urge you, in whatever version of the game you use, to back up your files frequently. That's not to say that you should expect the game to do things like this! This is an important bug to fix. It's just safe practice, especially if, like you say, you have 300+ hours invested in it. Will post the TT # in a bit. |
