Schevchenko has looked like the most overrated player in this WC thus far

Argentine coach Jose Pekerman has resigned from his position.

Full story - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...na/5122304.stm

Quote:
Jose Pekerman has quit as coach of Argentina following their quarter-final loss to Germany on penalties.

"This has come to an end and I will certainly not go on," he said.

"You have to make a decision and I'm convinced I've done everything in my reach, and it's time to look for something else.

"I'm very sorry for the coaches and the fans and the players, this team deserves to go further but we couldn't make it."

Not sure but that, he had to use one for the goalie because of an injury, he took Crespo off because he was done and brought a forward on and he put Cambiasso who was one of the better players when he came on. Imo Riquelme let the team down as he was never in the game or in this world cup so maybe Peckerman made the mistake with starting with him maybe Messi instead or Saviola.

Very valid points.

Argentina seemed to play worse as the tourney progressed and I still dont understand why Tevez wasnt playing from the getgo

Riquelme is one of those players that seem's to have got bigger than the team so coaches wont drop him no matter how poor he plays.

Last time they said he didnt have the pace to play so he was left off the squad. Go figure. If this was the 70s they might just drop Requelme and Peckerman from a plane into the ocean

I know I've mentioned this before, but for all that everyone made about the ball being bad for goalkeepers, and more goals would be scored, the stats don't bear it out.

This World Cup, at a current goal per game average of 2.35, is the second lowest in the history of the competition. The lowest was Italia 90 at 2.21, and it is far behind the third lowest, Korea/Japan 2002 at 2.52.

However if we use the knockout round games to date to project the final total, there will only be a further 13 goals in the final 6.5 games, therefore giving a total of 148 for a final average of just 2.31 goals per game.
