OOTP2006 crashes while loading (I've installed patch)

OOTP2006 installs just fine but crashes a couple seconds after I begin to load it. I don't get any sort of intro screen, just this...

Quote:
ootps006.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience....
If I read more about the error it says...

Quote:
AppName: ootp2006.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 ModName: ootp2006.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.0 Offset: 006882e1
I'm using...
- IBM T43
- Windows XP SP2
- 1.86GHz Intel, 1GB RAM

...and yes, I've applied the 1.01 patch. I've also tried uninstalling and re-installing it twice. I did a full chkdsk as well.

This file was included in the error report...

...okay, well this forum doesn't want to show the contents of the file, probably because it's an XML document. Maybe the sysadmins can "edit" this post to see the contents.

Since it says: "ModVer. 1.0.0", I think your shortcut is looking for the original files, and not the patched version. I am no expert, but this stuck out to me.

I saw that as well and thought the same thing. But I believe the patch overwrites the files. But anyways, I went into the proper directory and clicked on the file instead of using the shortcut and got the same error and same ModVer.

Thanks for your input!

Tried that, uninstalled the game, reinstalled with the newly downloaded file. Didn't help.

This looks at part like an eLicense issue, make sure to check your control panel and see that eLicense is enabled and active first. Also you might want to send that edited attachment to support@elicense.com to see what they may have in their database for solutions as well..

I've e-mailed eLicense and am awaiting their response. However, $5 says they send me right back to OOTP support.

eLicense support is being slow, anyone else wanna take a crack at it? I've been playing OOTP each version since OOTP3, so I'm a dedicated fan and I know it's a quality product and am willing to work with you support guys to get it working.

Ping Marc about eLicense. I am astonished that your dealings with them have been poor. But, of course, I am a sample of one. You may be being treated poorly.

In case anyone is following this thread and my problems, here's the latest reply from eLicense support staff, their solution didn't solve my problem because I already had this selected...
Let's try this.
Disable your DEP (Data Execution Prevention).
1. Right-click on "My Computer"
2. Select "Properties"
3. Click on the "Advanced" Tab.
4. Click on the Performance "Settings" Button
5. Click on the "Data Execution Prevention" Tab
6. Select the "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"

Try running the application again and see if you get an error.

Thumbs down

Six days since my last e-mail from eLicense, and I've sent a couple reminders since then.

I still haven't received any support from eLicense for 10 days, but I was able to solve the problem. I went to eLicense's support pages and found an uninstaller application and ran it, which completely removes eLicense from your system and control panel. I then uninstalled OOTP2006, reinstalled it, applied the patch, entered my eLicense order number and it worked.

It looks as if that eLicense uninstaller app solved my issues, I'm surprised that eLicense support team was never able to make this suggestion.
